Positive experience: Visited the pool on a Sunday and had an overall good experience. The sauna, steam room, and spa were great, and the pool itself was nice as well. The only downside was that the lane markings on the floor weren’t consistent across all lanes, which caused a couple of run-ins. Aside from that, everything else was enjoyable.

Fantastic experience: I visited a couple of times during my stay in Newmarket. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I can’t fault the value — a day pass was very affordable at NZD $11 (around £6 for me). Please note that this review is intended as constructive feedback and does not reflect my overall positive experience of visiting. The changing rooms felt a little run down, and a spin dryer for swimsuits would have been useful. The pool itself was a great length, though I did experience a strong chlorine reaction in my eyes. The sauna was more like a saunarium, while the steam room was excellent it was spacious, consistently producing great steam, and one of the best I’ve been to. That said, it could have been cleaned more thoroughly but maybe it was the time of day i entered, and the ceiling may need replacing at some point. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here, especially the 50m pool the first I’ve come across. Many thanks.

Fantastic experience: I have been to literally all the gym in new zealand . 24hr gyms never really clicked as I thought I will go anytime and ended up never going. Then I thought about olympic pools as I did security here one time as I was asked to remove unruly client. Well,that was my tour. And since it has a closing time, I made a habit of coming and not missing it(been a regular for more than two years now).I came ,signed up(cheaper than the gyms)and enrolled for all the facilities(sauna, spa, swimming, steam room, gym). Parking has never been an issue as plenty of free ones after 5ish/pm. Achieved the best shape of my life(still going)as easy to recover at sauna or spa or swimming.First time I drank beer and wine at the gym when there was a party. Overall best place to enjoy for good price. The facility is old but next gen nearby (too bloody expensive and they charge for stuff which I would never use).I could put membership on hold and staff knows me(I dont-rude on me)but I'm introverted. Worked for me !!!!!

Negative experience: Need deep hygiene clean for facility!

Negative experience: I'm only using the sauna, so the one star is only for that, and one of the staff members who thinks cockroaches in the facility is all good The sauna stinks since no one is using a towel (not mandatory), so the wood is absorbing all the sweat, and due to the heat evaporating in the air again and again. Front of the sauna 20m² of black mold on the ceiling if not 40m²photo.

Positive experience: I love this place! It could be clearer for sure, so that’s why 4 starts. They have the best teachers ever, always happy to help. The people at the front desk are lovely!

Fantastic experience: I just had a great experience at the Olympic pool in Newmarket! I had to take a swim test for work, and honestly, I was feeling really nervous and a bit overwhelmed at first. But then I met Camilo, one of the lifeguards, and he completely changed my mood! He was super supportive and friendly, and his encouragement made it so much easier for me to relax. I also want to give a huge shoutout to Fabiana at the front desk. She was absolutely incredible and so accommodating—nothing was too much trouble! If you’re considering visiting, I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

Negative experience: No matter how many times I try and cancel. They ignore me. Still taking 20 a week put of my account even after 8 weeks of emailing them. Terrible service

Positive experience: Good general fitness pool, very high sided, so you'll probably need to use the ladders to get out. Water seemed slightly green when I was there. Lane ropes do no line up with floor markings and no T's.. So turns are a little funky.... Showrooms are awesome. Take a padlock if you want to use their lockers.

Fantastic experience: Been a frequent casual and long time visitor to the pools and have enjoyed bringing family in to swim. Our kids learnt to swim here and their grandparents still swim here after over 30 years. The pool is always clean and the staff are helpful. We have loved being able to come in during the hot days to cool off in the pool.

Negative experience: The pool itself is okay, but the ladders used to climb out is a serious hazard. Almost half of the screws are missing or unscrewed, making it shake and feel like it could fall off at any moment. This is a major safety concern that needs urgent fixing. On top of that, the prices have been increasing lately, which doesn't seem justified given the lack of maintenance. Not really worth it at this point.

Fantastic experience: Have been attending for over 15 years. Great facilities and an amazing team who make everyone feel welcome. Never feel intimidated at The Olympic. Sauna and Steam room are the cherry on the top after a swim or workout.

Negative experience: Saunas have a stinking smell not sure what exactly is I have been there twice now and in a span of a couple of weeks and it has been the same ,sauna was also mouldy which doesn’t seem to be hygienic at all !?

Negative experience: Very unhygienic pool and facility for the price you’d be paying you’d expect a high end facility but that wasn’t the case ,pool was yellow and had stuff floating around have been there in a span of 2weeks and it has been the exact same ,I don’t think they clean the pools regularly bathrooms and changing rooms also very unhygienic with hair and all sorts of rubbish laying around

Negative experience: Super casual with people's lost property. I left behind an expensive specialist shampoo in the shower. I rang to find out if it was there and they told me I had to come in and look for myself and that lost property is kept out publicly in the bathroom. I came in to have a look and they told me if shampoo is left in the shower they usually throw it out. Needless to say, my shampoo was not there. The facilities are good but kids are often let loose splashing around in the spa area

Negative experience: i see that all the reviews are from quite awhile ago so i thought i’d post my experience here as of now (2025) i’ve been coming here for a couple of years now staff were all friendly and nice years ago but now the “supervisor “ for the pool a indian girl is there most of the time she is very very rude and disrespectful, i’m paying 10$ to have a swim here and i feel very un welcomed and disrespected when i could have just gone to a pool half the price

Positive experience: I like this pool, but I’d wish the staff would assist people in choosing the correct lane to swim in. Medium lane with 4 breast strokers going not at medium pace, or backstrokers that can’t stay left or keep medium pace and people that should just be in the slow or recreational lane but like the medium lane. I do get my swim done but it would be nice if people respected the lanes. Otherwise sauna steam facilities are great!

When I raised this with the staff one Sunday afternoon he said he would "tell the cleaner that evening" which suggests to me they only clean the place once a day which is nowhere near enough for a place with so many people using it. Gross.

Negative experience: Ah this is a shame I use to love being my kids here but they have created an unsafe environment. I strongly recommend you don’t bring children here because you don’t know who they will be getting changed with. This is not Allgood. Provide a seperate bathroom for the lgbt community if you actually care.

Negative experience: 这里虽然有5米泳池，但是这里并没有允许带上脚蹼. 我也到了无人的lane 自己玩. 但还是被反馈了 挺让人失望了 这里会遇到倚老卖老的老太太.太烦人了 我只能回到akl council的泳池.起码还因此带上脚蹼 并非美人鱼裙.

Fantastic experience: This pool facility is fantastic, particularly during the day as there's less people about (not that there's anything wrong with people, but it's a hassle to swim into others while they're relaxing...) The staff are lovely, the water is wet, and the sauna is warm. Be here or be square dude. We'll certainly be back for another paddle-party!

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience 10/10 The 50 m Olympic basin in 28°c and the spa pool is 40°c. Only 10NZD for a day pass. The place doesn’t smell like chlorine at all and doesn’t sting the eyes either. Very friendly staff, even the lifeguard answered my questions with patience.

Negative experience: I went to this pool twice and today the pool was very dirty and the surface of the water was dirty, and when I was changing clothes, there was so much hair on the floor and I got out quickly.

Negative experience: As an out of town visitor I tried to pay for a casual swim with cash and was turned away. Be warned they don't accept cash. On the positive side they do have a 50m pool.

Fantastic experience: I find I always have a great workout at the Olympic gym. Great variety of machines and it is always nice to finish off the workout in the sauna and a dip in the pool. I never use the hot tub as I’m not a fan of public hot pools. I recommend anyone looking for a clean affordable and well equipped fitness centre. Staff are super friendly. Notable mention to ‘Thomas’ who works at the front desk reception who is always super warm and does a great greeting.

Fantastic experience: The Olympic pools and Fitness centre is a slightly dated, but very functional place to swim, workout, partake in exercise classes or relax in the spa and sauna. The 50m pool has 7 lanes, which sometimes gets reduced down to 5 when the swim squads run in the mornings and evenings (5pm ish). It is excellent for training and the cold mornings are made easier by the heated water. The gym is well resourced with plenty of free weights and machines. For the price, Olympic represents excellent value for money. On top of the facilities, the staff are very supportive of your goals and helpful to assist when you have any questions. The front of house staff are welcoming and accommodating within reason.

Fantastic experience: Been to Olmpyic pools multiple times with friends. 100% recommend to anyone. Sauna, spa, steam room as well as pool and gym are an essential for recovery. To have them all at one spot, a true gem. Staff at Olympic pools are also amazing. Soo welcoming and friendly to me and my friends especially on our first time. We enjoyed it soo much the first time, We had to go again and still go to this day.

Negative experience: facilities are amazing and staff there are friendly as well but in regards to cancelling membership, i had to send 4 emails and call 5 times without reply charging me throughout the process.

Negative experience: This is a historic facility: New Zealand’s first Olympic pool completed in 1940. Originally, it was an open air pool and, judging by the photos on the wall, quite nice. Unfortunately, in the early 1990s, corporate fat cats decided to build a giant multiplex movie theatre over it. The result for visitors today is unwelcome: bleak concrete on all sides and a striking lack of natural light. It is somewhat like a swimming pool in an underground car park. Over the past 30 years it has also been rather neglected and needs refurbishing. Other than that, it’s fine. Good news is that they are planning to refurbish. Look forward to coming back when that’s done.

Fantastic experience: Probably the best pool and fitness center in NZ. The facilities are clean, the spa pool is the perfect relaxation temperature, and the steam and sauna are fantastic. Most of the staff are friendly and cordial, however there was one who felt like she didn't want to be there. Overall, would recommend this place to everyone. And Nick is a legend. He's the nicest, sweetest guy ever.

Fantastic experience: This gym is located in an excellent part of the city which super easy access on public transit and an easy car park across the street. The staff are bright and welcoming when you walk in and have always been happy to help when I’ve had questions. The facilities are equipped with everything you need for a good workout - cardio and weight areas alongside group fitness. Keep in mind that this is not your fancy pants gym with filtered lemon water and essential oils. This place is a well equipped, well staffed, well managed classic gym experience. At times it can appear rough around the edges but this is a part of the charm and history of the building and facility. A great fit for anyone looking for an affordable, reliable, and well rounded fitness facility.

Fantastic experience: I'm a member of this center, usually I go to the gym and pool, in overall I have a positive experience. The gym is equipped with good, though not perfect, tools. While the equipment covers most workout needs, there’s definitely room for improvement, particularly when it comes to the music system, which wasn’t great. However, the space is clean, well-maintained, and has excellent ventilation, making it a comfortable place to work out. The staff were also kind and welcoming, which added to the overall atmosphere.The pool is decent—while not spotlessly clean, it’s still enjoyable. The spa is warm, which is nice, but the water pressure in the jacuzzi could use a boost, as it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. On the other hand, I really liked the sauna, both the steam and dry options were great for relaxing after a workout.Overall, it’s a solid place to exercise and unwind, though a few improvements could make it even better!

Negative experience: I’ve been a member of this facility for roughly 5 years. In the last year or so my experiences here have become more and more disappointing. - spa water is gross and there’s always dead skin floating around. Perhaps this is due to the filtration not being able to handle the amount of bodies in the water: it should become members only - spa extremely busy every night of the week where you feel crammed up next to strangers: it should be members only - people clearly homeless/high on drugs in the spa: it should be members only - constantly there are children in the spa splashing and jumping in the water. As far is I’m aware it’s a gym, fitness and swimming centre. Not a child’s play pool. Aside from swimming lessons, it should be no children in the spa, cold spa, lap pool or saunas. - yoga classes where once plentiful and on in the afternoon and morning most days of the week. Now there’s hardly any running and they’re on at weird times. - forgive me if I’m wrong but the spa and Sauna at a gym should be for health and wellness and not for socialising. There are constantly too many people speaking loudly and obnoxiously. No staff members ever ask people to speak quietly nor is there any signage encouraging these polite practices: it should be members only. - temperatures are all wrong. the hot spa is to cold and the cold spa is too warm. The saunas temperature is inconsistent. The cold shower isn’t cold enough. The water fountain is too cold and doesn’t offer any room temperature water (which offers better hydration) - cockroaches. In the last 6 months it seems the building has been infested with cockroaches. I’ve seen them on my last 3-4 visits. I have also heard stories of many other patrons seeing them lately. They have been spotted in the sauna, around the spa, around the steps, around the pool and in the changing room. They obviously live in the pipes and the building clearly needs fumigation and I’m very surprised there arnt many mentions of this in reviews. - on a few occasions I’ve seen a man rowing with an ore in the cold spa. This is totally inconsiderate, he was sloshing the water around so much no one could sit peacefully. No staff intervene. - people speak to loudly in the changing rooms - people spend time on their phones In the changing rooms - people bring their phones into the spa and sauna. - at a place where there are people half naked, cell phones with cameras on them should not be allowed to be used. I’ve seen people taking pictures of other patrons a few times which is horrible. Especially no phones in changing rooms. - I’ve seen a man stretching in the changing room taking up space and hanging out in an area where people are naked. Super weird behaviour and it keeps happening as there are hardly any staff or signs to enforce decent behaviour. - drinks fridge options are too expensive and hardly any healthy options besides water.

Negative experience: I have been going regularly (3 times a week) for the last year and recently I have noticed the hygiene and cleanliness standards have dropped significantly, the place is INFESTED with cockroaches, I have seen them inside the sauna and all around the pools. The floor & walls inside the changing rooms are grimy and dirty, the risk of bacterial and fungal infection is really high and it just feels way too gross. :(
