Our comment from FitFit New Zealand about Ellerslie Leisure Centre:
Ellerslie Leisure Centre in Auckland is a delightful hub for families and fitness enthusiasts alike, featuring modern facilities and a friendly atmosphere. Many users have praised the great staff, noting their approachable and helpful nature. The centre offers a wide array of fitness classes and amenities, making it a perfect spot for individuals and families to stay active.
Visitors have highlighted that the centre is well-organised and has ample parking, adding convenience to the experience. The gym features extensive court areas, including courts for badminton and pickleball, which are well-maintained and ideal for various sports activities. Children particularly enjoy the supervised programs and activities, contributing to a welcoming environment for younger visitors.
However, some users have expressed concerns regarding equipment updates and maintenance, particularly in relation to cleanliness in certain areas like the showers and the condition of some gym machines. There have also been mentions of customer service issues, particularly regarding membership management and communication, which could be improved.
In summary, while the Ellerslie Leisure Centre excels in providing a friendly and enriching environment for both fitness and leisure, there are areas where attention could enhance the overall experience. Overall, a great place to exercise and spend quality time with family and friends!

Ellerslie Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I was keen for my 13 months old gymnastics and they sent me email for 0-4 years group timings and fees for this age group. I went for trial class .. but it wasn’t age appropriate for 13 months old. Then the instructor there wasn’t supportive when I asked what my baby needs to do as she looks younger for this activities she replied yes she looks younger. I asked her what should I do she just said just what do you feel ! Lol Why did you guys put 0-4 age group when you can’t accommodate according to age . When I approached people at reception they said it is mostly parents led ! The conversation was all over the place . They were not sure what they were doing!
Fantastic experience: Excellent classes and a great facility. I enjoy the 6am HIIT classes, always something different and a great workout :)
Positive experience: Birthday party review for 4 year old: Hall: has bouncy castle, gym equipment (balls, nets, balance beam, trampoline, some mats, and rings) and chairs are lined up along one wall. In summer it is warm inside, not too hot - unless you're running around like the kids! Bouncy castle: is a really safe design, you can't slide or fall out of it. It's noisy though, so it is heard from the entire hall and kitchen. Gym equipment: not particularly safe, but if used correctly/with supervision for younger kids it's fine. Trampoline doesn't have nets. There isn't a lot of padding for falls throughout the hall. Kitchen: opens into the hall halfway. It has most things you would need, but not in the best condition. I recommend table coverings for a party (we didn't bring any), and to bring your own big bowls for chips etc. There are 3 tables in the kitchen. Take care with the hot water, it was much hotter than I expected (I hope they check the temperature). Instructors: they take the kids through classic games such as red light green light. It didn't really work for us given the age range and that kids wanted to play on the bouncy castle and gym equipment. Overall: recommend it if your kids are happy to exhaust themselves running and jumping, and if you don't mind joining in a bit. I didn't like how noisy the hall was and how the kitchen wasn't super clean.
Fantastic experience: Fun times
Positive experience: I have been a member of YMCA for long time. Great staff, friendly and approachable. About 6 months ago I sent an Email to the manager about: Updating their equipment Changing the the Battle Rope (shattered in pieces)in the group training hall downstairs. Men showers upstairs need a proper cleaning!! Manager Emailed me back he is getting budget and will bring new equipment. Still waiting for a Battle Rope to be changed and showers still in the same states. BUT I had an Email that my gym membership has gone up!!! WIFI would be great too.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Positive experience: Great place
Negative experience: A complaint has been made to Exercise.org.nz regarding a cancelled YMCA membership which you've re-opened without my permission. I do not appreciate being called to say that I owe money to you when it is clear that my overdue fees were PAID IN FULL before the membership was closed. They will be contacting you I imagine to ask for further details. - Andrew Taylor
Positive experience: I'm a staff member for ymca mt albert rec and mt albert primary school asc and hp and this week was my first time at Ellerslie rec on Tuesday as it was a educational holiday that day and when I turned up for my 1pm shift the morning shift receptionist made me feel welcome and like it was my second home and and she took her out of her work time to show us each every room and as we were new there work for that day and she took her work time to come over on my work break at 3pm and cane to talk to me and check up on me and everything else and she knew people who have intellectual disabilities which i have and other people who have all other kinds and she understood me and she had no problems with us she didn't rush us at all like the afternoon receptionist took over afternoon and evening shift and she made me unwelcome by the way she was and hehe seemed she didn't really want to work that day just the attitude she gave us and and she seemed she didn't want to lead us and she made my partner feeling unwelcome after I finish my work and we were shifted out alit as there's no asc room and compared to mt albert rec at mt albert rec all the staff are loving and make sure staff and public are okay and mentally and friendly to newbies and public too and made my partner feeling welcome to mt albert rec than Ellerslie rec I would recommend going to mt albert rec for asc and hp more nicer and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great place to exercise. Heaps of parking
Fantastic experience: I came by to play pickleball with friends. The building looks quite new and multisotired. There is a gym and the court areas upstairs. The court area had 4 courts. The reception area was air conditioned which was nice to rest in.
Fantastic experience: Nice place for the family to go to There's playground for the kids Big field to play Opposite is the facility where there's gym and game courts
Fantastic experience: My kids enjoy doing Gym at the Rec centre. They have been very helpful and are neurodiverse friendly, which is encouraging.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility
Positive experience: Low Key Gym
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly staff who showed me through the venue and what it has to offer.
Fantastic experience: Great classes & gym facilities. Lovely, knowledgeable staff.
Positive experience: I visited the badminton court. Too many lines for different sports on the floor, making it really confusing.
Fantastic experience: Well set up. Good group fitness
Negative experience: what kind of gym doesn’t have wifi? such a cheap and easy thing to have for customers. It is also a bit dirty some days, plus some machines are quite old and rusty. also there should be a cheaper plan for only gym use as all auckland council gyms have.. ymca only has the “all in with gym+classes+pool” option, what if I only want the gym?
Positive experience: Great place for kids birthdays. Parking a bit of a pain, and sports equipment could use a refresh
Negative experience: What a waste of my time. I called them because they are offering two weeks free. I was just looking for an explanation about the offer on what the cost is and options. They offered me to come over and have a look facilities and so on so on. I didn't want to but they insisted. So firstly they couldn't agree with my first option as they said they were very busy, so they choose day and time. Secondly they called meo the same day of my appointment one hour before saying that they were double booked asking me to push it an hour later, which sadly I accepted. When I arrive to my appointment, receptionist couldn't find any under my name. She did have not a clue. So then she found on her mind that the only person that could possible give me the tour went home because a family emergency. I mean everyone can have this type of situation, but at least I would've expected an apologetic note or a call, but nothing instead. What a waste of time when they could easily provide information over the phone when I requested. Hopefully someone at YMCA can see this comment. Poor customer service

Positive experience: Quite expensive if you want to play casual basketball. Hoops are basic and Ok for casual ball. Courts are usually dusty and slippery. Only one full court.

Positive experience: Good but a bit too small
Positive experience: Zumba n yoga instructers are very good there
Negative experience: So I have been coming to this gym since i was 17. Honestly, the staff here are amazing, however, the Never2Old programme, the people who attend these have a tendency to be absolutely inconsiderate (with a semi hint or racism). The other day I was here working out and went to the bathroom (left my towel on the bench) and came back and was taken. I politely told the lady it was my bench, too much she ignored and continued working out. When she left she took another members bench who was different skin colour and she ended up moving to allow that person on the bench. I used to enjoy this gym, but after this rude behaviour I decided to leave and go elsewhere. (staff here are amazing though)
Fantastic experience: Awesome place
Positive experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: Workout time
Positive experience: Nice facilities and fitness programs
Fantastic experience: Excellent. So good for the kids
Negative experience: YMCA has the worst customer service ever.
Fantastic experience: Great staff great centre
Fantastic experience: I cannot fault them. Nice gym. Good classes and instructors. My kids love their holiday programs and other activities throughout the year. Sometimes a bit disorganised, but who isn't ;)
Fantastic experience: Attended a kids birthday party st the gymnasium here. Loved it. There were couple of staff on hand to ensure the kids were entertained and parents could have "grown up" time. Plenty of gymnastics type activities, bouncy castle (not sure if provided by the venue?) And sports equipment to play with. A separate room available for food and drinks.
Fantastic experience: Great people. Good facilities.
Positive experience: Awesome service and nice place
Positive experience: Friendly employees!
Positive experience: Nice facility for recreational activities at very reasonable price. There are multiple badminton + Squash Courts which can be booked in advance at very reasonable price. Staff are very friendly.
Negative experience: Nice people. Car park, walk way driving area not very user friendly due to their being smashed glass scattered everywhere..each time..
Fantastic experience: Great early learning centre. They look after the kids very well
Positive experience: A good place for kids to kill time
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and reasonably priced memberships
