Fantastic experience: Friendly guy on front desk, great big blue eyes & a welcoming smile to welcome all guests, the other manager is good also & Emma is encouraging in her texts. There's parking but only shaded on one side. A big range of machines to choose from. Clientele are charismatic. It was fine & dandy for our purposes. If they introduced a 10 day session pass that would be helpful. I was told there is a no contract option but you must pay a joining fee still & your bank details are in there for them to use. To each their own but I prefer a ten session pass or a monthly pass, no sign ups.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, excellent customer service, the staff are super friendly and helpful, good equipment, membership fee also very reasonable. Emma (PT) gave me a program when I start the trial, show me how to use the equipment. Thanks so much Emma, other staff also very lovely. I didn't end up join, not because they are not great but I want to attend more classes (yoga, zumba, Pilates etc) which they don't have. Recommended for others who don't need those classes.

The house music creates an incredible vibe, keeping me motivated to hit personal bests while also giving me a chance to sneak in a quick dance break. Weekend classes here are a highlight of my week! Fantastic experience: Tonnes of gym quality equipment I’ve never had to wait to use any. Friendly staff that have time for everyone and are very helpful. I see classes have started Saturday mornings at 7am. I heard that midweek lunchtime classes are starting soon as well as a woman’s lifting class in the mornings.

Fantastic experience: When you even enter this gym ur testosterone levels will spike over 9000 and ur arms will become 70inchs. Best gym ive come across in nz period i live 40 minutes away from here now so i havnt been able to come here at all but i still keep the membership to this gym. Thats how alpha this gym is :))

Fantastic experience: This has to be the best gym on the North Shore! It has a fantastic variety of machines on offer, and I personally love the plate loaded machines as I feel they work better for my body. Due to the size of the gym and equipment available, there's essentially no waiting around for others to use the machines which is a big tick from me! Additionally, I have found the atmosphere and other members demeanor in this gym quite a nice change from other gyms in Auckland - everyone is welcoming and smiling, giving a sense of community, opposed to competitive vibe! From the get go, Omar has been very helpful and friendly; always open to offering advice on technique or finding equipment around the gym space. I recommend this gym to all my friends!

Fantastic experience: Just finished an intense session at functional fitness, firstly very impressed with the variety of machines and grips. Secondly vibe is positive and chill and meets my needs. Overall the gym is super solid and helps me improve my physique.

Fantastic experience: Great size gym with awesome friendly staff! Never had an issue with finding machine to workout on thanks the layout of the floor. Plenty of different machines to work with as well as area to strech and cool down afterwards.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Functional Fitness if you’re looking for a serious gym with all the equipment you could ask for. Really enjoyed my time with them, staff are awesome, accommodating and super helpful. Really feels like a family run gym as opposed to just another cookie cutter chain.

Fantastic experience: Overall great gym, heaps of equipment and free weights, plenty of parking. Just a few downsides/feedback below (some of these issues I think are carried from the previous owners) - No A/C, gym can feel like a furnace. The fans don't do much as it feels like it's just recirculating the hot air. Also feels like lack of fresh air coming into the gym even with the doors and windows open, a bit concerning if someone decides to gym while unwell/down with cold. - Few equipment's need refurbishment such as grip either torn off or on its way to tear off. - Dumbbells, non bumper plates are in pounds not kg which can create awkward weight increments. Dumbbells are bare metal with no coating for grip. I can't confirm but the dumbbell weights don't feel accurate. - People don't put weights away properly. Quite annoying to have 2.5kg plates drop almost on your feet when someone puts it in between 10kg bumper plates.. Can be a treasure hunt to find smaller plates. Would be great if there's some sort of labelling so people put weights away properly. EDIT: I last wrote a review 4 months ago. Changed my review to 5 because they listened to the feedback and got new dumbbells in KG and refurbished the grips. Next upgrade can we please change out the nasty pound plates to KG and get another bench press rack?

Negative experience: Don’t understand why there was no reception on a Thursday noon

Negative experience: Really hard to get in touch with these guys. Tried calling many times and visited the gym many times but the reception was empty and noone to attend.

Fantastic experience: An absolute pleasure to train here. Lots of like minded people who all just want to get stronger, fitter or better. Membership fees for what they offer are very reasonable and they're constantly investing in new equipment and improvements. The environment is tough but everyone I talk to there is always happy to help, especially the big guys! Really lovely community they've pulled together. If you're looking for a gym on the Shore that's got powerlifters, bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts then definitely check out Functional.
