Fantastic experience: Flex Fitness Stonefields is a solid gym. It’s clean, well-kept, and has all the gear you’d expect. People are friendly but keep to themselves, which is nice if you’re just there to train. Staff are helpful without being overbearing. If you're in the area and want a decent place to work out without any fuss, it’s worth checking out.

Fantastic experience: First time working out here, and will be back for sure. It feels like this gym is run by someone who has been to a lot of gyms, and then finally had the opportunity to set one up really well. It's not crowded full of equipment, there's space to breath and workout properly. The layout was logical for someone who came in with no idea of anything. Everything was clean and tidy, other people working out were friendly and considerate. Equipment was all in great condition. Any of the signs around the gym were kind but also set clear expectations about how the space should be treated. The biggest improvement for me would be having a smaller plyo box (to stack) and moving the handstand area away from the squat rack (a bit dangerous to bail close to heavy weights area, and the lighting isn't great to film/self critique).

With over 20 years in the industry, we've worked hard to strike the right balance in equipment, layout, gym culture, and atmosphere to create the best possible environment for our members.
Like all gyms, we are somewhat constrained by space, which is why the handstand wall is positioned in an area that allows those wanting to practice handstands to do so without damaging other walls. Our lighting design also intentionally dims from the entrance to the back, ensuring members can train without feeling like they’re in the full glare of everyone else. Additionally, we pride ourselves on being a non-filming gym, respecting the privacy of our members—something many have specifically sought out when choosing us.

Fantastic experience: I’ve never really considered myself much of a gym person, but after joining one of their Saturday morning bootcamp sessions, I was hooked. The energy was great, and the owner was genuinely passionate and made it easy to get into it, even as a beginner. The gym itself is really clean, well-organized, and the atmosphere is super supportive no egos, just good people working on their goals. Whether you’re just starting out or already into fitness, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a go!

Negative experience: Horrible experience with this gym all due to the Owner Lee, he’s problematic as shown by previous 1 Star reviews. Been a paying member with Flex for two years and forgot a key tag once and was asked to leave 45 minutes into a workout I can understand if it was a common occurrence but it wasn’t. I’ve been to most Flex gyms in Auckland and this one is by far the worst. Royal oak doesn’t even have a key tag system so what do you do for those members? Trivial reason to asked to leave a gym. Disappointing and won’t be back. Don’t train at Stonefields unless you like being watched like a hawk from Lee.
I'm sorry you feel the need to leave a 1 star google review in relation to your visit today, however to put into context your review I would like to clarify a few points.
All members are obligated to swipe in to any Flex Fitness gym they access, this ensures their is a digital record of their visit. If a member forgets their key tag they can not access the gym. This is a Flex Fitness NZ H&S policy and good industry practice which was explained on sign up. You did mention that this hadn't been a problem at other Flex Fitness gyms when I spoke to you so I am guessing it has occurred on other occasions. It is ANZAC day and as your home club notes on its Instagram page "one person per key tag, sharing access is not permitted" their policy is not different.
You are correct that Royal Oak isn't on the key tag system, similar to your situation those members can not come in outside staffed hours. During staffed hours we can manually record their visit, in the future all Flex Fitness gyms will move to a phone app system, (towards the end of 2025), until then members need to remember to bring and swipe their key tag on every visit.
You are correct in that we have received a number of 1 star reviews around members not bringing their key tags outside staffed hours.

The facility is super clean, well-maintained, and packed with high-quality equipment for all types of training whether you’re into strength, cardio, or functional workouts. Fantastic experience: Best decision to move to Flex Fitness Stonefields - felt so welcomed by John and Lee from the moment I walked in to enquire, and never looked back! Facilities are great, John and Lee keep the place spick and span, the gym has all the equipment you need and have never had any issues with being able to access the machines/gear even at busier times. Members are all friendly and respectful and there's a great community atmosphere - it's clear that Lee and John have worked hard to create a base of loyal, regular members, and it really comes through in the vibe of the gym and way people interact with each other. Great to see some community initiatives like Lee's bootcamp up and running, and excited for more chances to get involved and connect!

Negative experience: Gym equipment is pretty good. Bathrooms are outdated, especially when you're expected to mop up after yourself due to the poor design of the showers with shower curtains lol staff need customer service training.
We notice you have placed about 14 reviews in the last 20 minutes which seems slightly odd. We do on occasions get fake reviews from people who for whatever reason feel the need to spam multiple business. That said there is one entry for your name from 14 months ago, please feel free to call us if you want to discuss regarding this from Feb 2023, that is if this is a genuine account.
Negative experience: On the flex fitness website they advertise a free pass. This seems to be the only flex gym that doesn’t allow the free pass and after speaking to Lee on the phone this goes against what’s advertised and I feel like the commerce commission would be as equally concerned as myself. Lee then agrees that over the phone to not charge me because im seriously looking to join. I arrive 15 minutes after our phone call and Lee turns round and says hi mate im still gonna charge you but im just going to take it off the joining fee. I go that’s not what we agreed on and I came here to see the gym and I haven’t seen it yet. So he lies to me gets me to drive across town thinking I’ll still pay because I’ve come all that way. Lee, the thing about you is you’re most probably a nice guy, well presented, charming British accent, great social skills ….But you seriously lack integrity ..I couldn’t trust you with anything you’re far too devious for me mate. When I mentioned I’m seriously comparing you guys with fitness portal you got defensive and off the batt say things like oh yeah but that gyms four times the size of ours and their hammer strength machines aren’t the real McCoys I couldn’t care less where the machines are manufactured so long as they’re designed and engineered to give me the same result - I’m Happy. You could have sold me on flex but instead you punch down mate, instead of being a good representation of your company and selling me on all the pros you just bad mouthed Fitness Portal and wasted 45minutes of my day, made me feel extremely uncomfortable - What a dog move that is and then you’re still trying to skim $20 off me. Lee, you need to reconsider your career and ask yourself what am I doing here. Because you even said other gyms don’t care about you but we do. You gotta ask yourself if you really said that to me and stand by that statement - that you really care, then why don’t your actions match up? I called Emily at Newmarket flex it was straight forward I’m going in for a trial tomorrow no fuss, no stress and hopefully she can redeem todays customer disservice disaster and get a contract signed.
Whilst we don't like negative reviews we are happy to accept some people see things differently to us and this platform provides an opportunity to make themselves heard. That said some parts of your comments we feel have been misrepresented.Good luck in finding a gym that aligns with your needs
Fantastic experience: You get what you pay for. and in this case it's worth every dollar! I continue to be thoroughly impressed with this gym so I thought they deserved a review. I have visited a couple of gyms with friends recently and I can’t help compare them to this one. I joined this gym because as I wanted to workout in an environment that was well maintained. I value the quality of the equipment and customer service that Lee and his team offer. Their combined knowledge about fitness and nutrition is excellent, providing valuable guidance tailored to my personal goals. The team is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely invested in the members’ well-being. It’s clear that they prioritise hygiene throughout the facility making it a comfortable and inviting environment. It is my favourite place to work out.

Fantastic experience: Recently moved to the area and have instantly loved this place! I’ve been coming to Flex Fitness Stonefields for a couple months now and would love to share my fantastic experience! When i first came to join this gym, I had a consult with John who gave me a full tour of the facilities and actually encouraged me to look at other gyms in the area before making my decision. I’ve had negative experiences with gym owners and managers being rude or pushy in the past, but Lee and John have done the exact opposite of that. They’re incredibly welcoming and always there to help, keep it up guys! In terms of the actual space, it is always immaculate in cleanliness and tidiness and there’s a great astroturf space for more multipurpose use. The machines and other equipment are always in great condition too and I really appreciate the wide range they provide. For after your session, there’s also a number of bathrooms and shower facilities available too. The gym being 24 hour access, 7 days a week is such a bonus for me as I can often only get time for the gym after hours. It’s never too busy when I come and I love that you have enough room to do your session without interrupting anyone else. Credit has to go to John and Lee who really make the experience at Flex Stonefields feel like a community. Bonus offerings like boot camp, a social netball team, a social night as well as a range of workouts on the chalk board each week if you’re not sure what you want to do, make it clear for any member (or prospective) to see the value in this gym! These guys really took the hassle out of which gym I should pick, and it’s been such a positive experience ever since! Thanks so much guys!!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely love this gym! Have been coming here for well over a year now and the environment is amazing. Have made plenty mates just because the client base are so friendly. The owner takes great care of the place and this translates to majority of the gym goers caring about leaving the gym as they found it. Fantastic experience: I decided I wanted a change of environment and found this gem - there is something to say about an own / operator as they take so much pride in what they have. Been at Stonefields for about 2 months now and just love it. Awesome friendly clientele without all the gym egos. Lee the owner is super friendly and makes a huge difference. It’s got everything and more and sometimes it feels like it’s my own personal gym. Random extra point is it doesn’t have the cheesy music but always good sounds.. everything and more and loving the change and help my motivation. Happy days

Negative experience: I regret to say that my experience at Flex Fitness Stonefields has been extremely disappointing. This morning, I called my mate who was already there to see if there was a manager onsite, and fortunately there was. I approached and asked how I could sign in without my key tag, expecting a simple solution. Instead, I was met with a critical attitude and treated with utter disrespect. What makes this worse is that all the other Flex Fitness locations are fantastic and understanding in such situations. However, Stonefields seems to take an unnecessarily tough stance, which is especially frustrating given that I've been a loyal customer, consistently paying my fees week in and week out despite being unable to go to this gym due to an ACL injury. My first time back in a while and this is how you get treated! If you're looking for a gym that values and respects its members, I would advise looking elsewhere. The treatment I received here is unacceptable, and I will be canceling my membership immediately.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and the owner always greets with a smile and wave which i find very refreshing espically if ive had a bad day! Always clean and all the machines I need are here and I'm always able to get the ones I want - usually I come in the evening from 5.30. Very neat place! Highly recommend

Negative experience: If i could give 0 stars i would. Came for the first time last friday and the owner is horrible. Save your time and don’t come to this flex. This is the only flex ive had a bad experience with. If you’re expecting a chill session after work or even on an off day, you’re better off going somewhere else.
Nuzhat, I see you and your friend have given 1 star reviews as a form of punishment. When you and your friend break into the gym and get challenged by the owner dont be suprised that you get asked to leave. You have no right/entitlement to be in the gym if you arent a member, you chose to ignore the signage and are now complaining.I am guessing you do the same at the other Flex Fitness gyms you mention but havent been caught but feel you can do it at all the Flex Fitness gyms.As you are hiding behind differnt names as to the ones provided on the day I cant respond to you directly, however, if you feel you are in the right please feel free to contact me at the gym. Negative experience: Owner is rude and unbearable. Was my first time going Stonefields and will never be coming back again. If you expect to have a workout without your every move being watched by the owner (+on cameras) lower your expectations. Owner is picky about everything and will ruin your mood to even workout. Do not go to this gym. This is the only flex ive had a bad experience with out of botany howick rewa and manukau. Owner will probably respond to this review and instead of reflecting on this review as feedback, he will try and prove the customer is wrong as it will hurt his ego too much.
David, I see you and your friend have given 1 star reviews as a form of punishment. When you and your friend break into the gym and get challenged by the owner dont be suprised that you get asked to leave. You have no right/entitlement to be in the gym if you arent a member, you chose to ignore the signage and are now complaining.I am guessing you do the same at the other Flex Fitness gyms you mention but havent been caught but feel you can do it at all the Flex Fitness gyms.As you are hiding behind differnt names as to the ones provided on the day I cant respond to you directly, however, if you feel you are in the right please feel free to contact me at the gym. Fantastic experience: Been at flexfitness for a couple months now, I'm really enjoying it and so glad I join stonefields flexfitness, such an awesome gym with a really good mix of people, it has such a welcoming vibe and really respectful members that are all at different levels of fitness so you don't feel intimidated especially for someone like me who was new to the gym scene. The gym is always well kept and clean with a great atmosphere, The gym owner Lee is really invested in his gym and his members always keeping an eye on everyone and getting to know his members and making sure everyone is looked after. highly recommend flexfitness stonefields!

Fantastic experience: Flex Stonefields is a fantastic place to exercise. This gym has everything you need, with high quality equipment and machines that have been thoughtfully arranged to allow for spaciousness and work-out variety. The facilities are always clean, and each toilet has its own private shower. Gym, location, staff, management - 5 Stars all around. (Just don't challenge the owner to a squat-off, for you will likely lose that battle)

The gym is equipped with Hammer Strength, Life Fitness and Concept2 equipment, all recognised as quality equipment from a commercial gym equipment supplier.As to making fun of your 'enormous obliques', it would be hard for me to comment without having seen your oblique muscles. I don't recall any member removing their clothing in the last 3 years to show me their obliques, if they had I am sure I would remember, particularly if they are enormous.If this is a genuine review please contact me at [email protected] so I can understand better the reason for your 1 star review.Lee

Negative experience: Would not recommend, walked and right in your face. Keeps disturbing you during your work. All wanted was a peaceful work after a business day or work and got far from that! No small weights spend half the workout trying to find them Prices are cheaper at the botany flex then joining here.
Hi Alex,When you arrived you went to set up a squat station but and started to wonder around the gym without shoes on. When I noticed this I came over and introduced myself and asked you to wear your shoes when walking around, this is to comply with our health and safety rules.You reminded me you had trained here before, and most recently the night before so were familiar with the gym layout and where the small weights you needed for your squat were.You explained that you don't wear shoes when squatting, I was happy with that, as long as you don't walk around the gym bare footed, you agreed to this.However you continued to walk around the gym without shoes on. All of the other members were wearing shoes as per the signage on the TV.You then did bench press without shoes, I left you as you weren't moving around the gym, but you hadn't put them on as you started walking around the gym again.I returned and asked you again to put your shoes on and you gave the impression you were so I went away. A little while later you had taken your shoes off whilst doing the lat pulldown, I came back and I explained again that it was a health and safety requirement to wear shoes in the gym.You then demanded to see the rules, so I went away and returned with a printed copy which I showed you, still refused to put your shoes on.You told me to go away, I gave you the final option of wearing your shoes or leaving the gym if you would not follow this basic requirement.We take the health and safety of our members very seriously and our obligations under the health and safety act.I am sorry you feel the need to leave a 1-star review when I asked you politely to wear shoes, (which is basic gym etiquette) and refused repeatedly to put your shoes back on.I have detailed the above because I feel its important for those reading the review to understand the context of your rating.

Fantastic experience: We went back to visit Auckland for a couple of days and Lee was super helpful and accommodating at his gym. The gym was clean and had all the equipment that you'll ever need. Would 100% recommend and will definitely go back when we are back in Auckland again!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Flex Fitness Stonefields for over 3 years, and it’s one of the best gyms I’ve been to. It’s small, but has everything you need for a great workout, including a Smith squat rack, Airdyne bike and a good selection of cardio and weight machines and free weights. Lee is very welcoming and keeps the machines and rest of the gym spotless, a key consideration in these times.

Before Covid was even a thing and when you joined we had great members who recognised the importance of a clean space to train in. The gym environment is friendly, & respectful, no-one throwing weights around or yelling - And Lee's always on decks to greet you with a smile as you walk through the doors. 11/10.

Training at a gym with like-minded people means members are more likely to reach their goals and it's one of the things I am really focused on, delivering a gym experience that people enjoy.
Negative experience: Been to most of the flex fitness gyms they are all great except this one the guy at the front should work on his attitude in general, but mostly towards people wanting to join the gym. Update to your reply: there were 3 of us using those weights and we did put them aside also there were barely anyone using the benches near us. When I train I carry my bag around and my bottle as well which i move every-time i got equipments inside, I haven’t run into any issue with other flex gyms doing that. The only reason I came to that gym a second time was because it was the closest one. Never will I make that mistake again.
Hi Sayed,I am sorry you didn't like my attitude.I remember you coming to the gym on Monday and spending 3 hours here with your two friends.This was your second visit to Stonefields, and the very first visit since joining another Flex Fitness gym.When you came in it was quiet, however as the gym picked up and got busier, I came over and asked your group to consider other members and not leave weights lying around on the floor, along your pile of clothing and drink bottles. I don’t think that is unreasonable.Up to that point, apart from when the 3 of you arrived, I hadn't interacted with you.When I asked you to consider other members, your friends seemed pretty reasonable about. This fits in with the attitude of many of our members and the culture of this gym, but I am guessing not yours.We want to encourage people to come to the gym, not be put off by the way others train.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of many different gyms around Auckland, and Flex Fitness in Stonefields takes the cake for me. The staff are super friendly and always helpful, the gym has all the equipment you could ever need and this all contributes to a great vibe overall at the gym. Not to mention the cleanliness is superb - 10/10!

Fantastic experience: ** I wish to add an update to my review from a year ago. I have been with Lee now for a little over a year, and can honestly say he runs the cleanest gym I have ever trained at (and I have trained at some of Aucklands so called "BEST"). I also started PT sessions with him, as I underwent back surgery and still require some guidance. Lee is a master of his craft and works not only to help me in my fitness journey, but to educate me as to what it is we are doing and why we are doing it (in the simplest terms that I can understand). This is proving far more beneficial and it is not something I have encountered from other PT's. As mentioned before, he keeps his gym tidy and safe and I love how the other members are mindful and respectful of each other's shared space. I also appreciate Lee's high standards on hygiene, and wish to thank him for working as hard as he does. If you haven't been and you wish to join, go see him. You won't be disappointed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Found an absolute little gem tucked away below Mt Wellington. I have been to many gyms around Auckland, and though I have only been with Lee at Flex for three weeks now, I am absolutely stunned by my results so far. I can see changes that I haven't seen since before lockdown. Flex offers an incredible space that is clean, with new equipment and an atmosphere that allows you to workout without being bothered or hassled. I cannot recommend this gym enough compared to other gyms in the area. It's one thing to say that you go to the gym, but it's another to get the work done. Flex (and Lee) has given me this mindset and I am so grateful. Come check it out. You wont be sorry :)

I aim to tailor my sessions to the members goals, not my goal so they can get the, most benefit from a session and also understand why I have them doing a particular exercise or movement pattern. Fantastic experience: I should have written the review earlier. Since I joined the gym two months ago, I have found my routine and goals under the guidance of Lee(who is always helpful, professional, and enthusiastic), AND I can obviously feel the changes in my body. Working out in this quiet, clean, and tidy gym is a very pleasant experience. My friend has been exercising in this club for two years, and I hope I can keep doing the same. If you need to choose a gym, I would like to recommend this one. It's worth talking to Lee about your fitness plan.
