Fantastic experience: This outfit has the most amazing culture lead by people who care about our community foremost and our unique culture. Our whanau are our precious legacy. Ace and his beautiful wife Tanz have developed a dynamic safe space for our youth, which is overflowing with exciting opportunities that allow these kids to explore their strengths. Negative experience: I cancelled my membership months ago, or so I thought. Two months later, I started receiving repeated emails from Eva claiming I owe $134 due to a 30-day cancellation rule, along with threats that the amount will be sent to a debt collection agency if I don’t pay. This so-called 30-day cancellation policy was not in place when I signed up, and I was never clearly informed of any policy change. I’m now being asked to pay for 30 days of access to a facility I did not use. My opinion of this gym has completely changed. I was a recurring customer, but I will not be returning due to how this situation was handled. Changing policies without properly informing members and then resorting to harassment is unacceptable. I would not recommend signing up to this gym — save yourself the stress and headaches. There are better, more transparent options out there. Community Fitness is one of them.
In previous poor Google reviews we have welcomed feedback on how we can improve the quality of our service from our customers or encouraged them to reach out. However, in this instance, we hope the people reading this review can see that we have dealt with this matter as professionally as possible.
This review is misleading and inaccurate.
We informed all of our members of our change in policy adjustments to terms and conditions 3 times via email, displayed a link on our website and also put physical posters in the gym (to which she attended in this period they were displayed). We also double checked our email and confirmed that all 3 emails were received. The email sent out notified members 30 days in advance AND also given an extra 7-day grace period on top of this to give members the option to cancel under their original terms.
We try our best with all members on exit, including this member, where upon cancellation there was a clear email outlining the policy (shown below) as well as numerous phone calls and texts to this person asking for them to get in touch with us before the outstanding amount was escalated to an email where they were advised to pay with consequence of being sent to a debt collection agency.

* Your membership will remain active for the next 20 days due to our 30-day cancellation notice policy ending on the 5th of January 2026. You are still welcome to visit the gym and use our facilities within this notice period.
* After this period, all recurring payments will automatically stop
* Your key card access will be deactivated
Please note that any outstanding balance not cleared by your cancellation date will be referred to debt collections. If you have outstanding payments, we encourage you to settle your account by this date to avoid further action.
If you have any further questions about your cancellation, please feel free to reply to this email or contact us directly via phone call.

This member again failed to read their emails because it was only once they were further notified of their outstanding payments that they decided to engage with us and threaten to “report us to the commerce commission.” The commerce commision have stated themselves “We consider gyms should always give adequate notice of any proposed variation so as to ensure members have sufficient time to consider the effect of the proposed changes on their membership, and take steps to cancel the contract or negotiate a discount, where the change will cause detriment” We have arguably exceeded what was required to notify our customers.
As a local business, to reap the loss of a 1-star review and have our employee publicly name shamed due to the above customer being disgruntled is highly detrimental. All a result of them failing to check their emails, failing to read their terms and conditions upon signing up, and neglecting to answer calls, texts and emails.
Positive experience: Small relatively quiet gym, with very kind and passionate staff. All the amenities you need as a beginner to advanced lifter minus a couple machines, kept tidy, cool air and clean factifies. The staff are very friendly and constantly do challenges and workshops to engage their community. Solid gym.

Fantastic experience: We have been going to Strengthworks since it opened some 7 yrs ago and it's great to see them updating their T&C, particularly with the gym attire and cleaning fee. That has all been bought about by people taking the piss ! Fancy walking into a place trapsing mud and dirt. Would they walk through their own house like that? Iv'e seen it take an hour for the staff to clean it off the rubber matting. Members should be better ! It's a great place and the Staff are superb, friendly and very helpfull

Negative experience: I am hearing from some customers that this business is trying to impose a new cancellation policy on them, requiring 4 weeks instead of the 7 day notice requirement as set out in their membership agreement. The gym can not legally impose a new policy on its customers if they have not agreed to it in their membership agreement. Get in touch with your local community law or report a concern to the Commerce Commission or take them to the Disputes Tribunal if they try this with you.

The above comment is incorrect. We notified all active members of the updated cancellation policy through two separate newsletters, with a 30-day grace period before implementation—exceeding standard notification requirements, as well as having them readily available to read on our website.
As you have never been a customer of our facility, you would not have received these communications or have firsthand knowledge of our processes. Posting a one-star disingenuous review based on something “you heard” is not only incorrect but significantly harmful to a local business like us. Not to mention, taking it upon yourself to explain the incorrect legalities of this and encouraging people to report us to the Commerce Commission which potential new members and current members read. People we rely on to keep operating. You never contacted us directly via phone or email to query us before making and then posting these ill-informed assumptions and allegations online.
We kindly suggest reconsidering this review, and making reviews like this in the future.
Fantastic experience: I have just started at this gym after many years break from working out and I was feeling a bit unsure of how I would feel as a mature, unfit woman. I was, however, very impressed. The monent I visited, I felt welcome and the service, explanations and facilities are all great. The personal training has been great too, as I need a kick start and I was made to feel I was able to meet my goals, very encouraging indeed. There is a great atmosphere and communication and the work out app etc are all excellent. I look forward to becoming a very frequent member and making a real difference to my health and fitness. Thankyou for providing a great facility.

Negative experience: Cancelation has been the worst experience. First they persuade you to suspend your account in order for it to reactive in 2 months. Without a courtesy notification of the reactivation. If your account has excess funds in the account due to them not closing the account. Then you will not get refund while it is suspended. Once you email them asking to cancel the account. You'll receive confirmation of the cancellation 9 days later stating you're account will remain active for the next 7 days. They will not refund the excess fund in the account and will ask for additional payment for the period of time you've been waiting for a response.

We understand your concerns about how your cancellation request was handled.
We want to address your claim about being "persuaded" to suspend your account and the lack of reactivation notification. Looking at our correspondence, our team clearly offered alternatives by stating: "Before proceeding with cancellation, I'd like to offer you a couple of alternatives" and concluded with "Of course, if you still prefer to cancel, we can certainly process that for you." When you chose the hold option, we sent confirmation stating: "please let us know before the hold date ends as your membership reactivates and starts billing automatically following the 6th" - providing clear notice that reactivation would occur automatically.
The hold was presented as one option among several, never as a requirement, and your choice to cancel was always available and respected.
Regarding the delays in processing your final cancellation request and the billing issues you experienced, we acknowledge this fell short of our service standards. Processing times should have been much faster, and we should have outlined the remaining charges clearer as part of the 7-day cancellation policy you signed upon getting a membership with us. The owner tried to reach out multiple times to apologise however failed to get through. Please feel free to call us if you would like to discuss the matter further.

Fantastic experience: The best Gym in Northland!! Only Gym in Northland that is 24hours, only Gym in Kerikeri that has consistent friendly, happy, supportive staff, and the array of professional equipment is a benefit for any Gym Goer who really wants to workout. I highly recommend.

Hey yes we are a 24/7 gym located in Kerikeri, Sign up cost for student/Gold card is $40 and a weekly direct debit amount of $15.00 otherwise it is $60 sign up and $17.50 weekly direct debit.Please let me know if there is any other information you may require.

Fantastic experience: The 24 Hour Concept works great, the location is spotless, the equipment is modern and well set up and the staff is welcoming. Apart from that it offers awesome boxing lessons with a motivated and knowledgeable teacher.
