Gym Kids: Opinions
Negative experience: My daughter, 4 year old, went there for a term and we will not be going back. Staff do not care about safety of the children. They have way too many kids in one class without having an adequate number of staff to supervise them. You can tell the staff are not professional. They show the 4 year olds a complicated routine and several options, and expect them to remember all the steps when left on their own. In actual fact, 4 year olds need to be supervised one on one on the beam and the bars. The staff do not take polite criticism well. My daughter had fallen hard twice and the female staff supervising did not even ask if she was alright and walked off to another child. Don't know if the west Harbour branch may be better. Only positive is that the facility is well ventilated and smell fresh. The same can't be said for some other gymnastics facilities.
Sorry to hear your experience didnt go that well. It would have been great to hear from you via e-mail at the time so we could have looked into things for you. We do set strict coach to student ratios. For your 4-5 yr class we have 1 coach for 8 children. In your class there were 2 coaches for the 14 children.
Fantastic experience: There is a very good teacher at Ponsonby gymnasium. I hope you guys can open some classes in the North Shore.
Thanks!
Fantastic experience: Excellent venue well set up with very friendly staff. I've used them for school holiday programs twice now and my daughter really loves attending.
Thank you for your feedback. We certainly put a lot of work behind the scenes to make our holiday programme and classes during the school term a positive experience for everyone.
Fantastic experience: My kids have been attending Gym Kids for over 4 years and it has given them confidence, co-ordination and skills which I believe are so important and foundation to many sports. The instructors have all been loved by my children and they do such a great job getting a class of kids to listen and follow their instructions. Each class has great basic skills but on top of this they have variation. The kids look forward to their classes and it is amazing seeing their progress. The new premises in Hobsonville is outstanding.
Negative experience: Brought my 3 boys to the class where only one was in the class . My youngest (2 y/o) climbed on a low level piece of soft gym equipment attended closely by me, the male gym instructor got very uptight and told me to get him to sit down . I laughed and said "you're kidding right?" To which he said "no I'm not but he can stand if you like" . Come on guys, firstly if you don't enjoy having kids around you, don't teach kids. Secondly don't forget who's paying the bills here, a bit more polite asking and a bit less sarcastic crap. I get it's annoying having other kids around than the kids you are teaching but that's the landscape. Poor show, disappointing and not exactly making me want to give more money to Gym kids.
Hi IanWe apologise that the tone of our coach was not as polite as we would expect. We have addressed this internally. Please be assured that we love children, which is why we do what we do. Further more the safety and enjoyment of the students in our classes is our number one priority. We do appreciate that parents need to bring siblings, however they are not allowed on the equipment, this is stated in our terms and conditions. It is distracting to the students in the class and potential dangerous. Our recent Newsletter also covered this topic. We really hope that you understand we want to eliminate accidents as much as is reasonably possible and allow those in our classes to concentrate fully. We look forward to seeing you children in class again next week.
Negative experience: My daughter attended Gymkidz for about 6 months and she loved it... Until one day, she fell during the gym session and broke her arm. When we found out it was broken, I sent them an email to inform them and let them know we would skip a term. They never even bothered to reply or ask how she was doing. Really made me realise that they are all about the money but don't really care about the well-being of the kids!!! Shame!
