Albany Stadium Pool is designed for family fun and education. Although there is a lap swimming pool (20m) its priority first and foremost is for leisure and learning to swim.
Opened 28 January 2017 our exciting new leisure pool is full of fantastic interactive water features such as the over-the-pool climbing wall and splash pad! A great destination for families who want to have fun in the water, there’s inflatables and water cannons for people of all ages. Want to relax? We have a huge adult spa and sauna. In the mood to get active, we have a state-of-the-art fitness centre and small holistic group fitness classes. Need a quick snack or a cofee on-the-go? We have a cafe at reception with delicious coffee and cabinet food.
Accessibility: We welcome everyone regardless of ability. Some pools have ramp entry and we have a disability hoist and water wheelchair onsite for access assistance into the spa and Leisure pool. There is also disabled access to the fitness centre via the lift.
Please note that hours may change due to staff availability. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and website alerts at the top of this page for any changes or give us a call before your visit.
This learn to swim pool may be used for lap swimming outside swim school operation hours. Dedicated lane swimmers may prefer one of our neighbouring centres (this pool is 20m long and quite warm).
Young people across Auckland have free access to all council-owned pools. This initiative, for Aucklanders aged 16 years and under, means more of our region’s children and young people can be fit, healthy, and waterwise.*
All Swim Plus Zone* users will need to get a wristband from reception upon arrival. Wristbands are included for GET INTO IT and SWIM IT members, and Swim Plus 10 Pass holders.

Our facility accommodates family members of all ages. We have a shallower, warmer learn to swim pool and a bigger pool for deep water confidence and greater distance.
Here at Albany Stadium Pool, we are beginning our journey towards a more inclusive centre. We are working to ensure that our staff are considering the individual needs of students and are learning how to modify their practices to cater to more young people with disabilities or impairments. Our team are happy to talk about how we can create a better opportunity and experience for your child.
Term 1: Tuesday 30 January - Sunday 14 AprilTerm 2: Monday 29 April - Sunday 7 JulyTerm 3: Monday 22 July - Sunday 29 SeptemberTerm 4: Monday 14 October - Friday 20 December
Youth classes are designed for older children who haven’t been learning for long, or who would benefit from extra development before they progress to adult classes.
Some of our Learn to Swim schools offer a squad beyond Stroke for children who want to continue swimming to keep their fitness up, independently of a swimming club.
If you have had lessons before or time has lapsed since your last lesson, we recommend you get an assessment. An assessment can be booked through the link below.
If you know what class to enrol in, come into the centre and have a chat with our friendly staff at reception or sign up online using the button below.
Our Learn to Swim intensive lessons run over five consecutive half days (four if there is a public holiday) from Monday to Friday. Lessons may be in the morning or the afternoon.
If your child is a bit stuck on an element of their swimming, by coming every day for five days they'll normally crack it. Conquer that learning to breathe, breaststroke, or butterfly!
Contact us using the details on this page, or talk to the Learn to Swim team at the centre. A free assessment may be required to determine your child's level.
Exit immediately if you are uncomfortable, dizzy, or sleepy and seek the assistance of staff. Even if you have no existing health conditions, excessive time spent in the spa, sauna, and steam room could be fatal.

Our comment from FitFit New Zealand about Albany Stadium Pool:
Albany Stadium Pool in Auckland is a vibrant and fun destination ideal for families and kids. Users have expressed their enjoyment of the facilities, particularly the excellent children’s pool, complete with water slides and play areas. The pool is often praised for its cleanliness and friendly staff, providing a welcoming environment for all ages. Moreover, the gym, sauna, and spa are noted for being well-maintained, adding to visitors' overall positive experience.
However, some users report crowding issues, especially during peak times, leading to long waiting times and sometimes frustrating experiences with facility access. Some reviews mention that the lack of communication regarding pool closures and safety regulations can detract from the enjoyment of the visit. Additionally, certain policies around swim diapers for toddlers have raised concerns for parents, as has the temperature of the pools at times.
Overall, while Albany Stadium Pool has its challenges, the numerous positive features, such as a friendly atmosphere, excellent facilities for children, and convenient amenities make it a recommended location for a family outing.
Albany Stadium Pool: Opinions
Positive experience: Good, but often crowded
Negative experience: Worst Pool of NZ! The service, design, the smell!! Everything is awful!
Positive experience: There was a code brown while we were there, HILARIOUS! unfortunately it shut down the main pool so only the kid side with the slide was open
Fantastic experience: I love this pools! Been swimming there for a very long time! Before, during and after my pregnancy! And now my baby is 1 and he comes too! The staff are extremely friendly and the pools are very clean
Fantastic experience: Really good for kids to enjoy, has good play area in the shallow pool, also got swimming classes, life guards are on point when it comes to safety
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, clean and well maintained facilities, and plenty of parking!
Negative experience: The two receptionists working today at 6pm (blonde with bun and brunette) were extremely unhelpful. They spread misinformation claiming that they would receive an update in 4 minutes to us, then proceeded to inform another person that the update time was 15 minutes. We ended up waiting 25 minutes before receiving ANY update. Despite TENS of people exiting the pool, they still did not let a single person in. At the end, they only let two people in who conveniently purchased a swimsuit from them and came after us in line. This favouritism is utterly disgusting, their staff needs to do better. Furthermore, after telling everyone in line individually about the maximum capacity of lifeguards, their so called 'update' 25 minutes later was the same thing! I am not sure if these receptionist have short memory loss, but they claimed that the maximum capacity of life guards was 'NEW INFORMATION' when they clearly already knew. Why waste everyone's time? Overall, this customer service was one of the worst i've experienced.
Fantastic experience: Love the pool and sauna:)
Positive experience: GS birthday, nice family pool and GKs just live the place...
Fantastic experience: Gym, sauna, excellent kids pool with a slide and fountains, climbing wall in the pool and inflatable obstacle course for older kids, adults spa pool, and a lane pool. Small cafe inside serves cabinet food and Supreme Coffee. Free parking and very affordable.
Negative experience: Very poor experience today, we normally love taking our kids here. Today my husband took our almost 3 yo to the pool, she was very excited to use the slide in the toddler pool. Upon arrival he was asked her age for entry purposes, he was then told she needed a swim nappy. Our daughter has been fully toilet trained for almost a year and isn't required to wear a swim nappy at her swimming lessons. We haven't used a swim nappy at this pool before and of course no accidents. Apparently this pool have a policy for all under 3s to wear swim nappies - what a ridiculous rule! There are a lot of over 3s who aren't toilet trained and would need swim nappies. My husband was forced to buy a disposable swim nappy to use. My daughter doesn't wear nappies and shouldn't be forced to wear nappies. Also the slide was out of operation for cleaning - couldn't this be done at a time more suitable?? Once children wouldn't be using it, perhaps after 5/6pm? Overall not very happy and probably won't return.
Negative experience: Came 9am in the morning and just waited in the queue for 30mins with them not letting a single person in! You need to limit the people with membership going in so the casuals can actual get in! Ridiculous, please sort out a better system!!! You are making a LOT of people angry that was waiting in the queue (it was out the door). Maybe consider increasing the fee so u have less people coming? Just do something to control the crowd PLZ!
Fantastic experience: The swimming pool was so nice
Positive experience: The sauna is good. However, it gets slimey by days end. Would be nice if they cleared everybody out from the sauna 2-3 times a day and hosed down the benches.
Fantastic experience: It is a nice pool for kids and adults
Fantastic experience: Albany Pool temp 32 degrees compared with 27 degrees at Glenfield, excellent facilities, cool little Cafe & siting area. Great gym sauna and spa too
Fantastic experience: Fantastic pool, free for kids 16 and under, super clean, great gym, cute cafe, super cheap for adults, great facilities, awesome spa, refreshing sauna, attentive lifeguards, fun classes for adults - those are just some reasons to love this place! Definitely recommend!
Positive experience: Nice pool, but no separate male/female shower/changing areas (GRRRR poor design). Spa was packed like sardines & was told it's like this all the time. I need to find a spa that is not so packed. Monday 19 August 2024.
Negative experience: 员工非常差,骂人,还威胁, 太恶心的地方了
Negative experience: As many others mentioned, the lifeguards are very unfriendly.
Fantastic experience: My daughter had her lessons great friendly staff
Positive experience: Fun recreation pool for kids and offers swimming lessons. The pool temperature varies a lot and is usually colder than warmer.
Positive experience: This is a beautiful pool for our daughter however the water has always been cold. Way below what is advertised on the website. My daughter shivers during her swim lessons which makes it pretty difficult to get through. I wish it was as warm as they say it will be so she could enjoy swimming.
Fantastic experience: 수영레슨도 받을 수 있고, 어린아이들이 즐길수 있는 공간이 많아 좋아요~ 아이들도 따뜻한 스파를 즐길수 있으면 더욱 좋았을거 같아요☺️
Negative experience: Code browns and very crowded. Nice pool but too small for the community.
Negative experience: Rude staff today, Fri, 28 Jun, told me upon wanting to buy a ticket: "no PROBLEM", and that when I questioned this kind of reply, the colleague said: "You are welcome to go swimming". Really? I don't want to be welcomed like that. I did not go swimming there today because of that.
Positive experience: Not bad, but it would be great if they could add a shower place spreadly for men and women because they have to take a shower with pants on since the shower place open for men and women. It's a very good place for kids to play around
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend. Good service and wonderful environment. My little one really enjoyed the swimming lesson with experienced and patient coaches. The swimming pool is warm enough to everyone in winter time. Also, we love the macarons in the shop.
Negative experience: they removed the WiFi for the gym and the pool :/
Negative experience: Had to wait for half an hour in line to use the facility as no staff.
Positive experience: Good for kids or if you want to splash around. But if you’re a lane swimmer then go to AUT Millennium or G-Field. You will be boiled alive in that lap pool.
Fantastic experience: A fantastic facility for everyone from seniors like me to babies. I thought the design of the pools was imaginative yet practical. I considered that the entrance fees were very reasonable, especially for parents of little ones.
Positive experience: Good place for kids to splash around. Sauna is spacious and big. Hot spa also nice. Please if you could, have two big separate bathrooms for Male and Female (like AUT Millenium). Shower, toilet and change of clothes should be together.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff allowed me to use gym facility in an emergency. Much appreciated girls.
Positive experience: Good size sauna, pool areas are large and accommodating for all ages.
Fantastic experience: Phil is a great guy and the best lifeguard. He saved my 3 triplet girls when they were drowning single-handedly This leisure center is run by top notch managers, WOW
Fantastic experience: Grandkids had a fantastic time The climbing wall is awesome
Fantastic experience: We booked the party room in advance and it was a hit! We have never had a party at the pools before and now we will be doing this more often! Staff were very helpfull!
Negative experience: I haven't been here with my children for over 2 years. Some things have changed. Lilly pads are gone, toddler pool was closed for maintenance (means busier in the big pool) and there are lots of warning signs on every wall imaginable (do not spit, do not climb, do not push door, etc). Overall a more negative approach that is unnecessary in my opinion. The one thing that hasn't changed is that the lifeguards whistle all the fun out of swimming. Never ever have I been to a pool where they are so super strict...
Fantastic experience: Une piscine fortement agréable A faire
Negative experience: The lane swimming pool is too small for the amount of people wanting to swim. It is basically packed all the time with sometimes up to 4 swimmers in each lane. I feel that they need to regulate the amount of people. They also need to stop people swimming in the walking lane. Some of the lifeguards are friendly and helpful and some are not. The whole pool area needs to be twice as big as it's just not coping .
Negative experience: The management at Stadium Pool should prioritize instructor quality. Some instructors barely communicate or focus on technique for each swimming style, leading to months of wasted time and effort with little to no progress. It's essential to establish a system that allows for the selection of highly rated instructors, while those who underperform should consider different career paths. Additionally, new students often seem to be assigned to the less popular instructors, who lack students due to others leaving their classes. While there are exceptional instructors available, securing a session with them is challenging as their schedules are usually full.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place! There should be more activities (there is only lily pads and a slide) to make it more fun. Great size spa, sauna and gym.overall I would recommend.
Negative experience: While overall a great design, way too small for the size of people living in the area. You often have to wait to get as too many people are already inside. On a regular basis (especially on the weekends) you have to get out due to CODE BROWN. Main reason I see, are the kids birthday parties where kids eat too much party food and also go swimming. I'd recommend to avoid weekends for a visit. Also, I've seen more friendly lifeguards.
Fantastic experience: Good place! My kid like it.
Positive experience: Cool pool it's pretty far for me to travel, but worth it, they need to answer their phone thou! I drove out there 1ce tried calling, didn't answer and toddler pool was closed, I was so annoyed..
Positive experience: Great facility. Spent over 4 hours swimming here. The kids loved the water activities and water playground. Lifeguards are extremely focused on the rules!
Positive experience: Kids always loves it here, one of the best indoor pools in auckland. Get super busy so the wait can be quite long but definitely worth a visit.
Positive experience: Great place but pools aren't warm enough for toddlers. Our toddler got cold in less than 5 minutes so we got out and went home
Fantastic experience: A fine establishment. Great sized sauna and spa pool. The gym is also a good size and has a fair selection of equipment. Staff are also friendly and responsive to any need that may arise. Reasonably priced, would recommend Keep up the good mahi team
Positive experience: Nice pool for kids to play with No big slides tho
Positive experience: Pool area needs to be bigger!! Too small to service a growing population long term. A warmer, toddlers-only pool would be nice, especially during school holidays. Changing rooms could be warmer as well. The slide and water play areas are great, just need to be bigger with more equipment.
Fantastic experience: Good place to swim here. Like toddlers pool, Spa pool, Leisure Pool and Programmes Pool. But no kids after 7pm.
Fantastic experience: Amazing pool and fun place for family and even adults who can be like kids. Nice warm pool. Highly recommended
Fantastic experience: Took the grandchildren to this wonderful indoor pool with lots of activities to increase water confidence. Staf are friendly and life guards on the ball. Water is warm and inviting.
Negative experience: There are no separate locker rooms for men and women, it's not clear where to go. The locker rooms are dirty and cold. I was also surprised that you can't be in the sauna for those under 17, and you can't visit the jacuzzi if you're not 18 years old. You can't swim in the pool if you're under 18 after 7 p.m. Terrible experience, I don't recommend it
Negative experience: Very cold swimming pool. Not suitable for little kids for sure. Changing rooms are cold and dirty. The bathrooms are very dirty.
Negative experience: Absolutely unreliable opening hours, they close earlier or open later... And they forget to mention on the website on time... In 10 times I could not get in 5 times as they were closing earlier... Very bad as I have to travel 20 minutes to get there...
Negative experience: Great pool but more than an hour waiting (with two toddlers) in line to get in. Absolutely ridiculous!!!
Fantastic experience: Great place, family orientated, friendly helpful staff. Well equipped gym.
Negative experience: Bathroom gross, floor are also not so clean, they won't credit you or compensate if you miss a lesson and informed early. Not so great service but needs improvement
Negative experience: Everything there is great, but the lifeguards are the most stubborn. Kids are only allowed to be there until 7:00 and adults 9:00
Positive experience: Long wait times with no communications, maintenance not advertised well. Good pools but much room for improvement.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic!! Such a great place to take the kids! Affordable and endless fun! Get in early though as it packs out!
Positive experience: Nice pool and friendly staff. However prepare to wait up to an hour to get in if someone got stuck at the counter. Normally related to membership issue but could be others but will be painfully slow to process even got half the pool already empty...
Negative experience: My kid was doing lap swimming in a quiet slow lane when the guard approached my kid and asking question like "Can you swim without stopping in the middle ? You can't stop in the middle of lane". There was no one else on the lane at that time. My kid was terrified and upset after that. This has never happened in Takapuna, Glenfield, or AUT. Why can't we use this facility for learning ?
Positive experience: Found it quite frustrating that, when operating restrictions of pool entry, we saw several members entering and doing so with more than one person per pass. The place would benefit from a family spa pool as well.
Negative experience: Hi if you are living around the Albany or you are going join the Albany pool for the swimming lessons, please be aware, that’s my experience to share , it’s really unfair and frustrating! I am living at Orewa , enrolment the adult swimming lessons, I had 2 lessons which was great, but the online account showed up other 2 extra lessons and outstanding the payments for that , I even did not know i have others 2 lessons, I did not receive any confirmation on my phone or email. I called them they said I have to pay anyway the outstanding, also I have to call them cancel the lessons before the charges, i said I even did not know I have those randomly lessons , she said computer not lie , well I checked my bank account statements I had 2 payments been made it automatically for the Auckland Council 14.7$ . I showed her , she said the computer is showed did not pay . I said will pay those extra money today , but please cancel the lessons. she asked me did you receive any email about the cancellation? I said no I did not , she said : oh will be soon! I am still waiting ,it’s already 29 hours , also the online account still showing I have upcoming or active lessons. Seriously? I am the one today 28$ extra , what about others ? 10 People will be 280 $ , there will be more than 10 people , it’s really unfair.
Negative experience: Communication around capacity was horrible. Big queues as life guards said it was full but members and swim lessons allowed to enter. It's either safe or not. Do not go here with kids.
Positive experience: Cool pool for the kids but insanley busy, went at 9am and by 9:15 it was heaving, hard to watch your kids, seriously needs a booking system maybe on weekends, that way when full people aren't waiting outisde for god knows how long. I would prefer to book and be able to enjoy it with the kids, not great when you can't move hardly.
Positive experience: Great pool. Plenty for the kids to do - the slide is a particular favourite for my kids. The kiddie pool could have been a little warmer, a rad cold for very small children/babies.
Negative experience: Great warm little pool for kids lessons however NOT A TRAINING POOL. Temperature is 32 degrees and pool length is only 20m . Can staff please make this known to users before they enter please ? I was not told of this until I had paid and realised when I entered the pool .
Positive experience: Nice place but don’t even try it on a rainy weekend. Queues can be up to 1 hour
Fantastic experience: My daughter fainted at the swimming pool yesterday, the life guards and staff came to help her. The life guards were students, they are patient, friendly and pretty experienced through out the process. I am really grateful to them for helping my daughter. Thank you everyone again.
Fantastic experience: Great pool with good membership plans that work throughout Auckland. Amazing staff that get to know you and are interested in your wellbeing. Fantastic. Special shoutout to Jacob and Emily, and pretty much everyone really. They are a great motivator in my coming back.
Positive experience: The lifeguards there keep giving dirty looks like they don’t want to be there or if they don’t get payed enough, not even a smile which makes me very uncomfortable but the pool is very nice, if you are a member you can just go in without waiting in the line and sometimes there aren’t many people but its usually crowded but its very fun
Fantastic experience: Nice large sized pools for everyone. Kids enjoy in the aquatic center a lot. The lifeguards are patroling the pool frequently and are helpful. The entry fees are nominal and are a reason for pool's popularity. Ample parking is available on site. Access is easy via road and public transport too. Albany Westfield mall is in the vicinity which makes a great day's outing. Well recommended.
Negative experience: I've noticed some persistent issues at the gym lately. The crowds lining for the pools often block the entrance, making it difficult for people to come and go up to the gym. The gym itself has become quite crowded, and there are instances of large groups of teenagers monopolizing machines for extended periods, which can be intimidating. Machines are often left with heavy weight. The women's bathrooms are frequently overcrowded, and there's often a lack of paper towels. It appears that the staff are not actively addressing these concerns. They are often seen chatting instead of assisting members. The gym equipment is dusty, and some machines, like the cross trainers, have non-functional climb settings. To add to the frustration, the gym recently increased membership fees without visibly improving maintenance or addressing these issues. It's disappointing that they haven't maintained a reasonable facility capacity or cleanliness standards.
Positive experience: 2 times here so far. Only good things are the staff are friendly helpful and welcoming. The sauna is huge and good temperature the spa is good also. However the layout of the place is just bad. The changing rooms are absolutely terrible and creeped me out due to being coed.
Positive experience: Gym is pretty good. Bit small but really only missing an incline bench press. The pool however is unreliable. Randomly closed because no staff, or code brown, or they decided to close early ♂️ They should cover the membership fee in these cases.
Negative experience: Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience at this place. Unfortunately, I noticed some concerning issues that need to be addressed. The staff could be friendlier, the place is often overcrowded to the point of being unsafe, and there are also frequent staff shortages and closures due to "unforeseen" circumstances. The facility needs to prioritize cleanliness, especially since the floors are often dirty and the areas underneath the mats are downright gross. It's also concerning that there's a constant draught and dirt blowing in from the wide-open slide door right next to the baby pool, even in stormy weather. Let's hope the management can take action and make positive changes soon. Our health and safety depend on it.
Negative experience: Unfortunately the lifeguards are very unfriendly i do understand that smiling and being capable of talking nicely to people is not necesarrily part of there job saving lives is. The staff at the front desk are friendly and the pools themselves are clean but the fun aspect is removed by the atmosphere felt by the lifeguards and their constant telling off of children and parents alike. Great location picturesque with huge windows looking out onto beautiful green grass reserve.
Positive experience: 시설도 좋고 직원도 친절. 수질이 좀 아쉬워요...
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: There are heaps of different water play areas in it. Nice place to swim and enjoy in water for adults and kids.
Fantastic experience: Awesome Great pools, awesome staff members. They were very helpful and kind.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place for a swim with the family. Great spa and sauna for adults. Clean and well maintained
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. The staff and lifeguards are professional and welcoming. A great place for families and kids.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take the kids swimming but not at the weekend - it reaches capacity and the queue was about 30 families long!
Fantastic experience: Great pool for young kids. But it was rather cold, like not the pool but out of it. Guess the AC was turned up too much
Positive experience: Really busy but cool swimming pool. Plenty of family changing rooms which suited us however a couple could have done with a clean
Fantastic experience: A and I went to inquire about swimming and acqua jogging options for retirees. Bianca took her time and offered us friendly, efficient service. Both of us were delighted and consequently joined.
Negative experience: Usually ok if you get in early, great for kids. Nothing similar on the north shore im aware of.. however Covid policy made on the hoof, long waits with different information every 15 minutes... prior planning please next time Auckland Council & Albany pool mgmt. :/
Fantastic experience: Love it. The slide makes it entertaining for the littlies...and the not so little! And young children are free and just $1 entry for adult to supervise...bargain.
Negative experience: A male white lifeguard yelled at me for answering the phone in the pool. I was on the shore watching my four-and-a-half year old daughter play in the children's pool, and my daughter was in my sight. That man told me that cell phones are not allowed in the pool. I said I didn't see such a prompt, and he pointed to a sign that said "For safety, listen to the lifeguard's instruction". Well, even if I was wrong to answer the phone, is it right to yell at me and criticize me in public? Also, why are you turning a blind eye to the white woman next to me taking a picture of her baby with her phone?
Negative experience: Bad customer experience from Reception. Paid to swim with my kids but had to leave early as kids can only swim until 7pm even though pool open to 9pm. However was never told this when paying at 6.15pm and absolutely no signage for this policy onsite. The only mention is online or in a black and white pamphlet they have behind counter. With crying kids in tow, I asked staff about my entry fee and how to go about a concession swim as i had no idea could only swim for 45 mins. Girl at counter said not her problem, gave me lots of attitude and said i should have looked online before coming in, the other receptionist also backed up her friend saying its not their problem. No manager onsite to talk to when i asked to speak to a manager and they werent even going to give me the manager's details until a much nicer member of the lifeguard staff intervened, apologised for the lack of signage or not being told of policy, and arranged for a message to be left for the manager. Couldnt believe the two receptionist's attitude, completely appalling and not what i expect from representatives for Auckland Council The Manager, however, was fantastic and sorted out a resolution. Her service was 5 stars
Positive experience: How does this place have good reviews? Def not impressed when the "Bio Hazard" sign appeared and they shut down every single pool because a toddler pooed. Clearly did not have seperate filtration systems for each pool. It's an okay pool overall but in these covid-ridden days probably best to steer clear.
Negative experience: Here is my review on this pool. You have a nice climbing wall that you can’t use, a nice Lilly pad that you can’t use and a hot tub that is the perfect temperature that you can’t use if you are below the age of 17. There is also no family friendly hot tub. So if you want to come to this pool don’t.
