Keith Spry Pool: Opinions
Positive experience: Great pool, enjoy the spa and sauna
Positive experience: Great time, everything clean and controlled. Enough toys for a 2year old
Positive experience: Great local facility. Longer pool for swimming laps, learner pool for lessons, spa and sauna plus a separate kids pool. Well maintained and lots of life guards.
Fantastic experience: Cool little birthday room for the kids
Negative experience: Too much clorine. Bloke swim in pool
Positive experience: Great staff here they really want the best for their pool-goers, more than enough facilities and many options for all ages etc
Fantastic experience: Great place to attend. Very clean facilities. Staff are always cleaning whilst on duty. I hope they keep this up
Positive experience: Reasonable community pool.
Hi Mike. Thank you for your feedback. The spas are going to be replaced as part of the Library redevelopment. They will be replaced with one large spa pool, similar to the spa at Karori Pool. This work will take place later this year or early 2019.
Negative experience: They could do to clean the changing rooms properly, and no lockable lockers to store your stuff! Also, the staff could have better customer service!
Negative experience: Joel at pool counter, turned 15 under 10 year Olds away today at 11am. His explanation was they didn't return a conformation email. Very poor service and the fact that he wasn't concerned that these children came a long way to swim! He just turned them away. AVOID this child unfriendly facility at all cost.
Kia ora Paul, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Because our pools get so busy, we do require bookings to be made and confirmed before groups visit to ensure proper health and safety plans are in place and we are prepared for their visit. Out of fairness to everyone and to ensure consistency, we do need to enforce these rules which is why we weren’t able to allow this group into the pool without a booking. We will be investigating this further to ensure that communication was clear with the group, and get in touch with them to make sure they are aware of our processes moving forward to ensure this doesn’t occur again. However we do need to stress the importance of checking our website and following the correct procedures for group swimming and booking space at the pools, to keep everyone safe. Ngā mihi, ^Kyra
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and great amenities
Positive experience: Lovely facility. Loads of swimmers but I probably went at peak 17:45 - 18:30
Fantastic experience: Great aqua fitness class. Good facilities
Fantastic experience: Great for 5 and under and swimming lessons. 5-10 year olds are better going to te rauparaha arena pool with the hydro slide and wave pool.
Fantastic experience: அருமை.
Positive experience: Steam room please
Kia ora Kriya, Keith Spry Pool does not have a steam room. If you are looking to use a steam room, maintenance is now complete on the new steam room at Freyberg Pool and this is now open. Ngā mihi ^Kyra
Fantastic experience: Perfect fit families
Fantastic experience: Great fun for the kids.
Negative experience: They removed the spa
Kia ora, the Spa Pool at Keith Spry Pool is still at the facility and is open. Ngā mihi
Fantastic experience: Staff are always so friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Great place to cool off.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities love the pool
Fantastic experience: Come here for the aqua fit classes which are great
Fantastic experience: Great pool, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Fabulous plan for children's swimming lessons
Fantastic experience: Awesome pool. Lane swimming, children's pool, spa and sauna
Positive experience: Pretty good but just sometimes closed the baby pool.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility, well suited for kids
Fantastic experience: Awesome pools to hang out at on a not so great day outside...
Fantastic experience: Awesome place Great lifeguards Beaut space for the kids to swim ♂️
Fantastic experience: Great pool, there is a kid pool, lane pool, diving pool, spa, sauna, and another shallow pool. Love it here have never had any problems =D
Negative experience: Went there today poor hygiene spa pool was very disgusting and muggy wasn’t worth the price of $10.70 not happy at all do your job Properly
Fantastic experience: Good range of facilities, well maintained and not too busy when I was there.
Fantastic experience: Great Sauna not very many people in the middle of the day, would be awesome if they installed a steam room
Fantastic experience: We loved this pool. Especially the diving pool. Found the kids pool cold though.
Positive experience: Great children’s pool but the changing rooms and bathrooms were in need of thorough clean I know it can be difficult to keep clean during the school holidays .. great pool other wise
Positive experience: Great facility but… not enough steps at each lane to allow one to emerge. When the slow lane is at the far left you have to dive under several faster lanes to get out. You are told to swim in THE lane matching your own swim speed for health and safety reasons ie so a faster swimmer won’t collide with you. But getting out meant the need to cross those faster lanes where very fast swimming is going Also put a sign on the Hot Pool and sauna saying you need to pay. I’m tired of seeing people not paying when I have! They say they were unaware it wasn’t free. Unsurprising as it doesn’t say so. Please do something about this and the steps.
Negative experience: Our family previously attended Keith spry for a couple of years atleast 2 times a week for fitness and quality time however, this has ceased. It is small but it suited us down to the ground and is great for keeping the family healthy which is a priority. Keith spry have severely inconsistent regulations and processes and terrible customer service. My husband and I were water jogging in the diving pool which is dual purpose whilst our daughter (who is 10) was swimming in the shallow pool. She came over to see if we could fix her goggles and waited next to us. A middle aged gentleman came over, spoke to the pool attendent and we were then asked to leave the pool as we were not actively jogging and he wanted the pool to himself. We lodged a query via email 3 times with no response (allowing a week atleast between follow ups). Eventually cc'd in wellington regional and immediately received a response asking for a break down of events. Responded with a break down, again have not received a response. This is 3-4 months ago. Sadly we will likely go the extra mile to porirua instead...pretty darn inconvenient though considering we live locally in Paparangi. Keith spry need to get their ducks in a row.
Kia ora Sarah. Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear about your experience. We’ve looked into this and it appears your most recent email was lost in our system, we do apologise for not getting back to you. As a result of the issue we spoke to staff about their management of spaces, in particular the active management of the divewell, and ensuring the divewell timetable is adhered to. Ngā mihi.
Positive experience: Arrived to find the kids pool closed (no notice on website) and my rather bony oldest couldn't cope with the temperature of the main pool. So I had to get him a spa pass. Then they closed the main pool without explanation. Disappointing place, disappointing communication.
Positive experience: Wonderful , welcoming staff, really make you feel comfortable and safe. Sometimes not enough Aqua Jogging belts- which can be quite annoying especially when you pay your KSP fees for the whole purpose of Aqua Jogging. The spare I was given today by staff was old with a very thin belt the was ineffective in keeping my head above water. Thankfully a regular got out the pool and gave me hers. Come on KSP surely you can do MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!!!! Ago staff were very nice and did try ( although unsuccessfully) to solve the issue, in this particular case- UNSUCCESSFULLY. Disappointed. I'm also disabled and all the 3 disability changing rooms were being used by school children and NOT ONE LIFE GUARD intervened- it was left up to me to confront the adult standing with the children so that I was able to get my wheelchair in the rooms that are specifically available for disabled swimmers. Come on people, get your act together. PLEASE
Negative experience: Place could do with a really good scrub down (edges of the pool both inside and out very dirty looking and grime in the showers was yuck) and some actual lighting in spa area would be good.
Positive experience: Nice pool and kids definitely love it! There are a lot of choices for the pool, including spa and sauna facilities we can enjoy at additional cost. Family ticket is available and I saw swimming course are also available. We went there in the weekend so it was packed. Still have enough room for those who like to seriously swim (I only used one lane and frankly it was a busy one with lots of swimmers) or those who enjoy recreational swim. There’s a diving pool as well and kids and adults seem to enjoy jumping to the pool. Nearby there’s a lovely cafe and library. Parking spots are available, changing facilities and restrooms are clean. There are dedicated changing rooms for disabled. Happy to be back
Fantastic experience: Great pool and kids love it. Friendly and helpful staff
Negative experience: We went on a cold day.but the water temperature is more colder.we have to fully paid but they didn't mentioned anything when we buy entrance ticket that no hot or warm water. Change room completely dirty and smells bad. What are they doing? We are paying.not free.but then why this johnsonville pool in these kind of bad situation. Sauna out of service. Kids play pool out of order. Then what for they operating. Definitely these reviews should reached the in charge group.Hope we get better facilities in future.
Negative experience: Nice pool and facilities. However the changing rooms were in desperate need of a thorough clean. Edit: updated Aug 2023. Reduced star rating from three to one star. Hire some cleaners. Place is disgusting compared to other pools in the region.
Fantastic experience: I swam for the first time in 15 years, very simple rules and pool, everyone is kind and happy to take turns. Definitely recommend checking the council website to find how many available lanes. Parking can be difficult so use alternative transport where possible. Staff are friendly and during weekends I recommend keeping an eye on your bags as there are some young thieves out there who won't be afraid to have a browse.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Recently refurbished. But really good
Fantastic experience: A great indoor swimming facility in outskirts of Wellington CBB.
Positive experience: Nice pools not much for the kids
Positive experience: Swimming during covid it's different had to ring and book nice pools
Negative experience: Jus read the Stuff article, very average behaviour of the staff involved. They should be ashamed of themselves. Mike
Kia ora Mike, we do have an under 8 policy at our pools to ensure our tamariki stay safe, and require under 5 year old's to be within arms reach of their guardians at all times. Our expectation of all of our staff is of course to be helpful and considerate in their roles when incidents do occur and we agree that the response of the staff member involved was not appropriate. We followed a process at the time of the event you are referring to, including recognizing the staff member did not respond appropriately. Ngā mihi, nā ^Kyra
Fantastic experience: Great service and awesome time
Fantastic experience: Much better after the refresh/renovation. Sauna and spa areas are no longer an embarrassment.
Negative experience: Extremely cold water. High cost. For new facilities the place looked rundown eg tiles missing. Sad visit I'm afraid.
Fantastic experience: Great fir the kids while I have a nice relaxing swim too.
Negative experience: There was a time when this pool had an abundance of toys and inflatable equipment for the kids unfortunately now 1 ball that I could see and kids being told of for being kids diving pool empty and closed a real shame
Kia ora Justin, thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately due to the current environment with COVID and staff shortages, we have had to dial back our pool operations for the time being. We have a goal to get back to this stage again though!
Fantastic experience: Very nice place to take your children for swimming as well as for adults. The place is clean and tidy
Positive experience: Great pool. Friendly helpful staff. Always clean. Downside is limited parking and the main pool is a bit cold.
Positive experience: The pool seemed warmer than usual Usually it is freezing. Cold to get into & cold to swim in Please keep it warm or we will just have to swim @ Karori or Kilbirnie.
Positive experience: Staff are professional, friendly and helpful. The diving pool is perfect for aqua jogging. I have been at different times of the day, and there are always people using the facilities.
Negative experience: I really do not understand how they hire staff who look like they don’t enjoy their job and totally ignore children when approached. My daughter told me when she got home that her and a friend asked one of the male lifeguards if they could jump off the diving platform, he looked at them and then turned his back and looked the other way. Seriously not good enough! I suggest that staff member finds another job if he is unable to communicate at all with children. This is very concerning.
Kia ora. We are very sorry to hear about your experience and we would to find out more about what has happened, and how we can remedy it. If you could please [email protected] with specific details. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: The public pool is incorporated into a large state of the art centre with a library and café. A great outing for the kids. Just a pity that the water fountains at the pool don't work more often. Facilities clean and bookable swimming lessons available.
Negative experience: Lifeguards nowhere to be seen!
Kia ora. Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience. This is not something we take lightly and we would like to get to the bottom of this, so would you please be able to email us at [email protected] with specific details about what area you were in (such as the main pool or reception) and the time and day this occurred. Thank you.
Negative experience: Main pool still closed.
Fantastic experience: Major pool reconstruction till April 2021. Lanes are closed.
Positive experience: A bit short on changing room when there are swimming lessons
Negative experience: It has been closed down 4 renovations only the toddlers pool is open
Fantastic experience: Went to the cafe there. The food is absolutely amazing
Fantastic experience: As soon as I walked into this place I knew that they had done enough. Fantastic place highly recommended.
Positive experience: Adults pool is closed. Staff could be more approachable and show more patience towards patrons.
Positive experience: What a great facility...great to see so many people enjoying it too
Fantastic experience: Love this pool for my kids they can touch the ground everywhere they go perfect size
Fantastic experience: Our local pool, great for starting my new children into swimming. Friendly staff
Positive experience: Water is cold heard it from so many people, hence why you workout in the pool and music is on full blast, great for kids and adult workouts that is the best part.
Negative experience: It was very kaotic after the adult pool was closed. They kept charging and refund from my bank account. The staff were not helpful with their system. They claim They don't owe me any money until i showed them my bank statement. Don't feel safe with my bank information in their hand anymore. Went there a couple times and emailed back and forth. Such a waste of time!
Fantastic experience: Well appointed pools with Aquafit classes, swimming, Hydrotherapy. Great location, opposite train and bus station, loads of parking and set next door to Waitohi, the library and Cafe complex. Recently earthquake strengthened.
Negative experience: Went to watch granddaughter's swimming lesson, but she tripped over a tiled ledge at side of instruction pool and grazed her arm, so that was end of that for the day. Looks to be a bit of a trip hazard actually. It sticks out on both sides of the pool. Noticed other kids jumping over it, but she just didn't see it.
Fantastic experience: Family friendly pool with lessons available for kids to adults and were patient and understanding with my younger brother who has disabilities really happy I took him here
Fantastic experience: Pools are the perfect place for a good day of fun with kids, families and friends. Also perfect for someone who wants to swim to maintain their healthy lifestyle. When the weather is cold and windy and there's no way to go sightseeing outdoors, the pool is the right place to bring children full of energy and bored to be at home watching TV.
Positive experience: New look spacious more seating and fantastic kids swimming programme.
Positive experience: Check your local swimming poll out this summer.
Positive experience: Good pool. Well kept.
Positive experience: Our little boy enjoyed swimming here
Fantastic experience: Brilliant facility. Excellent community asset.
Fantastic experience: It was a great visit. The staff were wonderful.
Positive experience: It's ok its ashame theres no hydroslides
Fantastic experience: Lovely baby pool perfect for little miss 2
Positive experience: Pools are great but they need to improve their bathrooms.
Fantastic experience: By young toddlers love it. Friendly life guards and safe environment
Fantastic experience: The family absolutely enjoyed there day out here awesome lunch and the music was so groovy.
Positive experience: Nice small kids pool but need more for the kids to play with
Positive experience: Always a friendly place to go. The staff are helpful and obliging. The cleanliness level does not inspire confidence.
Positive experience: Nice little pool, facility average
Fantastic experience: Kiddies pool very big. Well maintained. Good selection of bathing suits on sale. Alert lifeguards. Good swimming coaching programs for kids.
Positive experience: Changing room situation is not great. Family rooms get very busy and if a child need to go toilet... Lovely swimming pool for kids. It is great to have pool, cafe & library together
Negative experience: Just been here with my two boys and two nephews...they said they couldn't open the deep pool as there weren't enough lifeguards...so my boys couldnt do any jumping/bombing...so what have I paid for? Then my boys playing with a ball were told to calm down...they are 13, 12, 11 and 8 for God's sake. Now there are 3 lifeguards sitting around doing nothing...about to leave. Never coming back. So much for society telling us to get them off their screens. What a joke!
We're really sorry to hear about your experience. We are bound by health and safety regulations to ensure there is enough staff to supervise each pool. We are working to get our pools open more and to scheduled times for customers to utilise our spaces. Thanks ^ Keith Spry Pool
Fantastic experience: A+
