Fantastic experience: Easy parking, great facilities, helpful staff and good pricing

Fantastic experience: Affordable, friendly staff and a good variety of equipment. However it gets very busy during peak hours

Positive experience: A victim of their success, as others have mentioned this is a great gym with lots of equipment and is clean and well maintained, BUT only join if you are comfortable wading through a crowd of people and waiting for the machine you want. It is very busy all day from 5am to 9pm. Especially busy from 5pm to 8pm, too crowded for me.

Negative experience: Extremely busy, not able to get to machines due to young kids mucking around. Obnoxious teenagers making nasty comments about us older clients.

Fantastic experience: I started city fitness 3 months ago and it’s been nothing but a positive experience, all of the staff are incredibly friendly. I also hired a personal trainer to get familiar with the equipment, his name was Navi and he was nothing but amazing. He was always so positive and helped me become a lot more confident at the gym. I now can go into the gym by myself and have a plan for my workouts. I would highly recommend him.

Fantastic experience: I enjoy the gym. even though I am in my 60s the gym is welcoming.

Negative experience: Some trainer named evelyn or evelitt or something thought instead of talking to my partner and helping or guiding her how to use the machine was to walk past and insult her. I hope you lose your job if this is how you treat your patrons. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and I need to hear back that she has been severely reprimanded or removed or else my partner and I WILL NOT be coming back to this establishment, and we warn family and friends about this incident. On the flip side the young man with glasses on shift as well was very receptive and helpful. Disgusting racist behaviour that speaks magnitudes about Evelyn's character.

Negative experience: Heater blasting so cooking during work out is not good. Also please get the young guys to stop taking photos in the changing rooms, it's disgusting and I think probably illegal. No one wants to be in the background of their Instagram selfies while I'm in my undies getting dressed.

Positive experience: Helpful staff, friendly atmosphere. The gym is well equipped and classes cater for everything my wife and I need and enjoy.

Positive experience: Bit dated. Didn't have all the machines I'm used to at my home town gym. Bathroom facility was excellent!!

Negative experience: Pathetic service received by a staff named Gina As i was entering on the 19.1.23 at 8:55pm I then asked to use the massage chair even before i got to enter she then said u wont be able to as the black card is not yours in which i said this belongs to modfigbthe msaage xhaknr as it is ear 9pm I felt like she was rushing and just wanted to leave Hope to see better services❄

Positive experience: Thoroughly disappointed. The gym is extremely easy to sign up to online but is an Everest-type feat to cancel. The gym itself is outdated. Fortunately it isn't the gym monopoly it once was; would look elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I have been part if City fitness ever since it first opened, I have seen it's growth which has been great. The group classes are well thought with a really great team teaching, their commitment to their classes, cheerfulness and encouragement is really inspiring. I have experienced other clubs over the years but always come back and are enjoying the HITT classes immensely when I'm able to attend.

Negative experience: IMO easily the worst gym in town. Watch what you sign and don't believe a thing they say.

Positive experience: Great usual cityfitness customer service, but it's a very run down gym in terms of equipment and very poor gym goers hygiene which can't be blamed on the staff, but because of lazy gym people not many there will clean their station once finished. These issues is something the cityfitness management needs to address as this gym doesn't supply basic things that other cityfitness around New Zealand already supply. Think Palmy is getting the short straw, hopefully once the builders have finished the cityfitness near the airport these same mistakes won't be repeated.

Negative experience: A review for Pitt Street, Palmerston North. Has its ups and downs. The ups make for a pleasant enough gym experience; the downs should bear serious consideration. The gym has an excellent range and number of machines for a variety of workouts, including several that work the same muscle groups, meaning that waiting for a machine to become available is rare. However, there are some issues with the mix of old Nautilus equipment and new StarTrac equipment - the older machines are a little worse for wear, with some having weight stickers ripped off (making workout tracking difficult) and some mechanisms, such as seat adjustment, not working or faulty. The newer machines tend to be quite oddly-proportioned and awkward to use, but otherwise quality - though I do find the "Lock and Load" weight switches annoying compared to a simple pin. Also, it appears that many of the machines' weight stacks are labelled incorrectly, as the disparity between the same labelled weight between machines is incredibly noticeable. The free weight selection is excellent and includes a variety of weight types, lacking only proper rubber-lined deadlift weights. The staff are for the most part friendly, but on several occasions have been unable to answer questions about their facilities or machines. My main issue is with the lack of enforcement of cleanliness and respect for the space. This is largely on the part of the clientele, for many of whom "meathead" is an accurate epithet. I often find machines not wiped down after use and sometimes damaged, as with the removal of stickers I mentioned earlier. If they are wiped down, the paper towels are often discarded where they lie. It is common for someone using free weights to slam them on the ground or fail to unrack them from a barbell, and whether these behaviours are due to laziness, disrespect or an egocentric need to show off, they should be addressed by staff. The value for money is reasonable, though even as a non-student I find Massey University Gym cheaper, more welcoming and with a more respectful and intellectual clientele, though offering less quantity and range of equipment. Finally, a minor complaint, but City Fitness's WiFi connection is unreliable at best and completely unusable at worst, the latter being far more common. Overall, of a quality mostly expected of a public gym, but with several compounding issues which sour the experience somewhat. I would recommend Massey over City Fitness, if you can deal with the inconvenient location and reduced hours.

Awesome friendly staff I must add that one of huge advantages is being able simply swipe your tag at other CityFitness gyms. This allows you to continue your fitness program with minimal to no disruption to your regular fitness schedule. I have attended CityFitness branches in New Plymouth and Te Rapa, Hamilton and no additional cost at all.

Positive experience: Have been a member here for years and years. I stay at this gym primarily for its HUGE selection of gym equipment. It's also very large and open, good for someone like me who feels claustrophobic in smaller gyms. They desperatly need Aircon though. If they do have aircon you cant feel it. Would recommend this gym to anyone.
