Our comment from FitFit New Zealand about West Wave Pool:
West Wave Pool in Auckland offers a variety of aquatic activities and is well regarded for its family-friendly environment. Some of the highlights include:
- Friendly Staff: Users have noted the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, making visits more pleasant.
- Variety of Facilities: The center features multiple pools, including a wave pool, toddler pools, and spa options that cater to different age groups and preferences.
- Cleanliness: Many patrons appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities, particularly the pools and changing areas.
- Affordable Pricing: Entry fees are reasonable, especially for families, as children under certain ages can swim for free.
- Range of Classes: A variety of fitness classes and programs for all ages are available, making it a versatile venue for exercise and fun.
However, some visitors have experienced challenges that could impact their enjoyment:
- Long Waiting Times: It is not uncommon for visitors to face long queues to access the facilities, which can be frustrating, particularly during peak times or school holidays.
- Inconsistent Operation of Facilities: Some amenities like the sauna and wave pool have been reported to be frequently closed or operational inconsistently, leading to disappointment.
- Cleaning and Maintenance Issues: A few users have mentioned that certain areas require more attention in terms of cleanliness and maintenance, which is essential for a positive experience.
- Safety Concerns: There have been concerns about safety for younger children, particularly regarding slippery floors in toddler areas.
Overall, while West Wave Pool presents a fantastic option for family outings and fitness, improvements in operational consistency and maintenance could enhance the customer experience.

West Wave Pool: Opinions
Negative experience: Same thing waited 35minutes for nothing well hundreds of people were coming out asked for a time frame no answer that’s shocking for council owned entity sort it out coz I won’t be back
Negative experience: Very Rude staff working in this pool they are very inrespect people
Fantastic experience: I'd like to pass on some great feedback about one of your gym staff - Noah. Noah helped me lose 16 kilo in 3 months. I am now feeling fit and healthy thanks to Noah's help. Noah has supported me on my fitness journey all the way. Noah approached me 3 months ago and helped me create a fitness programme. He has always been encouraging and a positive influence. Noah is a very friendly, approachable, and passionate individual who has made coming to the gym an enjoyable experience. Noah makes an effort to learn the members names and has helped build a community at westwave gym. His customer service is exceptional. He is always present and happy to give advice. I have witnessed many people approach Noah for advice and can tell many other members value Noah's knowledge and friendly approach. Noah cares about the safety of those attending the gym and ensuring the gym's policy around safety is adhered to in a respectful way. Overall Noah is a great asset to your business. For anyone who is considering joining the Westwave gym, talk to Noah if you want to have a great experience at the gym and achieve results!
Negative experience: Went late afternoon on a Sunday. Was told that they were at capacity and would need to wait about 10 min. Waited like 25-30 min watching dozens of people leaving the pools. Fine if there is a safety reason for capacity, but the organization was a shambles.
Negative experience: Waited over an hour and gave up before getting to swim. Staff had next to no customer service skills. Watched the pools while waiting and there were less than 10 kids in the pool the whole time, you need to figure out a better head count system. Poor first experience of the pools.
Negative experience: I brought my family to westwave pools today I’m a member and it’s the second time I’ve noticed the cleanliness standards were poor and below standard. The steam room - there were used plasters in the seating area The showers in women’s facility were disgusting there was hair everywhere rubbish and hair ties used plasters toilet paper on the floor in toilet cubicles the changing room floors were dirty. The family room shared facility smelled strong of urine. I tried to a make complaint on my way out but the two receptionists were so busy taking money from the line of people waiting to get in. The manager needs to be held accountable for the amount of people paying to use this public facility and it’s actually so disgusting if it does not improve by the next time I visit I will be canceling my membership. I really hope the council is going to action this and do something because you cannot be responsible taking money from people when the facilities standards are unacceptable. Really disappointed!!
Negative experience: Different sections have different charges and they don’t indicate up front when you pay. You need to be a very local person to understand and bring your family over. After paying and entering, I was told it’s $5 to use slide so when back to a counter to pay extra and came back in; after the slide I was told to pay $10 to use spa and sauna, I mean like- why don’t you indicate up front so we can pay at once? I got toddlers and bags are heavy, the pool indicates “theft operating”, I was like should I leave my bag here and bring my kids and go to the counter to pay again? While the queue is 30 minutes wait. I went there confused and left confused. Very weird design.
Negative experience: Woww... What a experience as a 1st timer. The cost for my daughter, partner and I was great as it was only $2. Started off great until I nearly passed away in the woman's toilet and the family room. The disrespect people leave it in, is extremely disgusting. Smelt so bad and unhygienic. Like bloody toilet paper left in the shower made me puke. Then witnessing a life guard clearing his nose with snot on the ground by the pool and window was disgusting We left cause I couldn't believe the state of it all. Okay byyyye
Negative experience: The worst experience I have ever had every time I go to this complex there is always something wrong .You go to any other complex you don't have to wait so long. I waited over 30mins then they say I have to wait longer!!!.Thats why I stopped going there and now will never go back Albany is so much better and cleaner.
Negative experience: Not safe for toddlers. The toddler area is very slippery and my 17 month year old slipped many times and landed on back and knocked her head. The flooring should be grippy or at least soft. The toddler slide is very steep and abruptly shoots you into very shallow water. You have to catch your bubba or they will have a head injury. Aqua fit class was happening at the same time which was really loud, so I recommend you check their schedule before going. Even on a quiet weekday morning, they make you wait in a queue due to capacity being reached, but it wasn't even that busy?
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, good facilities, clean, family accessibility, open late, recommend as both an adult unwind in spa or fitness in the gym & walking lanes or fun with family in the wave pool
Negative experience: Turned up at 9am specifically for the kids/family facilities to be informed that they wouldn't be open till 9.30am Went into the wave pool to kill some time but too cold for my toddler. Waited around till 9.45 with a shivering toddler and the family area was still closed. We left cold and disappointed and won't be returning
Negative experience: First time customer tonight. Came in to see the facilities. Was looking for a memberships for my wife daughter son amd myself for spa suna and gym. Unfortunately my son is only 15 so unable to use the main suna and spa. When I asked for options, the only option that was given was I could use the suna and he would need to use the pool. After a little research it seems there are other spas ect he is aloud to use. Lady was blunt and not intetested in talking, that said the young guy who was also behind the counter was helpful and corrected her when she told me the spa was also closed for the night. Anywhere else around west auckland anyone can recommend that I can have a suna or spa with my son after he's done working out?
Positive experience: Not a bad place but lacking decent cleaning
Positive experience: I'm a Westy and always travel back to West because it's home
Negative experience: Good facility but stupid strict rules as it’s owned by the council, everyone knows that sitting on a towel in the sauna is a waste of time as the sauna is absolutely soaked in sweat regardless. It’s a waste of everyone’s time enforcing this rule and it only creates hostility between lifeguards and customers. The other council owned facility (Tepid baths) now provide customers with blue mats at the door of the sauna for customers to use so you don’t need to take a towel home that has been soaked in everyone else’s ass sweat. Good thinking! And probably the only gym car park where you’ll get a parking ticket for no wof or registration…
Positive experience: Great pools, trainers as well, and Great staff
Negative experience: Dont know why theyre showing the dive pool its only open for the dive school ..the public never get to use it ..only in the school holidays then they charge $4each ..rate and tax payers pay to build filter clean and maintain all those pools then we get charged to use them ...what a rippoff....and theres always somthing broken here its not good enough...management hould be fired
Positive experience: Nice for gym and Sauna during Fridays after a week of heavy and tough works.
Positive experience: Love going to this place whenever l can. Great water activities for children and adults. Classes are held for those who want to learn and compete. During peak times like school holidays and public holidays, the pools are packed. Then it's a disappointment as one has to wait in lines to get in or come later. Fittness exercises and equipment are upstairs for those interested. There is a little entry fee to join.
Negative experience: We waited for an whole hour and we are still waiting.
Fantastic experience: Love swimming at this world class Olympic pool.
Positive experience: Busy during school holiday. Expect to wait for a bit. Water in the wave pool wasn't in good condition during our visit. Could be because of holiday season. Overall, enjoyed our short stay here.
Fantastic experience: 겁나 좋음 파도풀 오션월드급임
Fantastic experience: Very good place for everyone, swimming pools for all ages, space for different ages, cafe two levels gym and school holiday programs available and good price too, also swimming school for all ages also available.
Negative experience: Long waiting times to get in due to shortage of life gards yet not advertising for more staff either
Positive experience: Good selection of pools, gyms, a variety of classes, etc. Kids holiday programmes in school hols, something for everyone! November 2023 earthquake strengthening has been completed, so all pools, etc, now open.
Fantastic experience: very happy with the pool and staff lost my card got new one no problem Photo of coffee shops make great coffee
Negative experience: Disorganised reconstruction is seriously inconveniencing members who pay good money for facilities that are either non-existent or subpar. Rather than any improvement in recent months, it has got far worse. Maintenance work is never ending and paying members are left with overused sub standard facilities. The staff who man the public elements are great, but the management is incompetent.
Positive experience: One of the nicer pool around Auckland as it has plenty of lanes on both pools for doing laps. As well as the hot pools and saunas. Its fantastic!
Negative experience: This place is such a let down, I don’t even understand the point of having the sauna and steam room when there aren’t even warm enough to get a sweat on in 30 mins. What temperature do you run these rooms at? Sweat usually evaporates the the sauna is that cold it puddles. Also when the bubbles turn off in spa take a look and see how much dead skin is in there. Disgusting!
Fantastic experience: I came here for a diving competition. One of the best diving pools in NZ! Olly, (10)
Fantastic experience: 최고의 수영장과 스파 및 사우나!
Fantastic experience: Love westwave pools I take my daughters there for some English sense and they are so helpful and the pool is always clean
Positive experience: The space has everything to be incredible, but they need to invest more in cleaning in the areas of the bathrooms and dressing room.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take kids while on school holidays
Fantastic experience: I was there volunteering at the Rainbow Games. The facilities are great, fantastic deep dive pool and lane swimming. Plenty of options for families and close to the Henderson shops. Heaps of parking. I parked a short walk away as I was there all day and didn't want to get a ticket.
Negative experience: Worst experience ever, incompetent stuff which doesn't care. Today guy came in to the sauna fully clothed, I mean jeanns, running shoes, etc. When I reported to the life guard he did absolutely nothing and say to him , that's that it's not the best clothes for sauna. What a joke the place it's getting seriously dirty and the maintenance im not rather going to mentioned. My experience, nightmare.....
Negative experience: This place is shocking. Especially for waiting times. For example. They say 30 people and only 15 went through and then have to wait another 20mins. So shocking. If I could give it no stars. Then I would. So Shocking. Probably get in there and then they close the wave pool. West Wave should be free especially when waiting so long
Fantastic experience: Gym spa sauna steam Nice and Relaxing
Negative experience: Staff have bad communication, stood in line for 30 with a one year old that could see the pools and every playing he was excited and then the staff decide to say they close toddlers pool at 6pm by that time it was 545pm so just left
Fantastic experience: Great pool, we love the wave pool and spa. Reasonable price for adults, children free can't go wrong with that.
Positive experience: What I liked: Clean 50m pool for lap swimming, friendly receptionist and awesome spas (just the right temp) What I didn't like: Sauna and steam room were a lot colder than I am used to at other pools. Don't know if there was a heating issue or if they just like to keep the temp down?? Anyways they were clean, which is an upside.
Positive experience: Good toddler area for younger kids and nice family spa. Great value for money. Only $5.50 total for an adult and four year old. Had to queue for a five min wait at the counter but for that price I didn't mind.
Fantastic experience: Loved it and my kid liked it too.
Fantastic experience: Good place, finally getting things back in order. Recommend
Positive experience: Nice pool for kids and adults and it’s clean and tidy
Fantastic experience: My my miss and boys lived it. Will definitely go again. Need to see what the gym is like.
Fantastic experience: Great range of activities. Lovely pool for toddlers and kids. Very clean and organized.
Negative experience: Took my toddler to the family change rooms to get changed after her class. We encountered a grown man who was peeking over our cubicle and the other cubicle on our right had teenagers talking loudly, making sexual noises, and peeked over our cubicle too. This left me shaken and my toddler very scared.
Negative experience: First like to say. The main changing rooms are always smelling like piss hence why I use other private ones which are clean/well looked after. The wait lines if at capacity is usually long and I think they should have a line for the people who want to use the spa, sauna, steam area only so we can get through faster. The amount of times I've been mucked around/given all sorts of different information at this place is getting ridiculously stupid. Plus there's always something broken and or closed when coming here. I'm not coming back here again so over it!
Positive experience: Good facilities especially the diving. Diving NZ does really well. However parking often sucks, often super hard to get a park. It needs a larger parking building or why.... Changing rooms need more cleaning and attention. They stink.
Negative experience: Went to swim in the lane pool, only 3 lanes open for people training. The rest of the lane pool was filled up with learn to swim and swimming lessons at a peak time of the afternoon being 4.30pm onwards. People were swimming on top of each other making it impossible to train. There was one lane with a learn to swim girl whereas we were packed in like sardines. We also noticed sticking plasters from the learn to swim kids littered on the bottom of the pool. How disgusting health and safety wise, be aware that this is a council pool. This is what you’re rates are paying for such a disgraceful business model.
Negative experience: Bad experience ever!!! My friends and I went to last night. One of the lifeguards, a girl name starts with P, told us we can’t use lane pool because we can’t swim 25meters. However there is no paper or sign to show the rule, and no one told us at reception!!! And we have been here few times and no one told us the rule!!! And we swam in the slow lane, not medium or fast. There is even a walk lane, but no lanes for learners like me, casual learning swimming with friends in the lane pool. And the lifeguard told us we can learn from their swimming school, which I need to pay, and because the learning school, there is this kind of rule that no self learners in lane pool. I never heard in NZ, freedom and liberal country, we can’t learn from friends, and especially in the pool running by council not private swimming pool!!! That is so ridiculous!!! It’s unfair!
Fantastic experience: Every part of this leisure pools was to the highest quality. The lazy river, hydroslide, general pool, spa pool and inflatable Waterpark. Staff were all well alert and customer focused.
Fantastic experience: Good services, reasonable price if youre a memeber apart from when you're a casual and attend only the one class it's pricey but over all the pools is very affordable, life guards is always for a look out and fantastic service. Always kind and friendly. Super helpful in general and a good place for birthday parties.
Positive experience: A very large and comprehensive facility that would have been very impressive when it first opened. Now looking a bit dated and some sections are still closed after the cyclone. A bit annoying that you have to pay extra for secure lockers. Most gyms I have been to include them in your membership fee. Also a bit strange that there is no induction when you join the gym. You’re supposed to just wander around and figure out where everything is by yourself. Reasonably cheap though, so perhaps that’s why. Good range of group fitness classes and friendly instructors.
Positive experience: I've played badminton there, and the court isn't ideal for the sport. Firstly, the ceiling is too low, which hinders clear shots that badminton requires. Secondly, the white color of the walls, similar to the shuttlecock, makes it challenging to spot during the game. Although the light-colored floor is acceptable, a deeper shade would make it easier to determine the shuttlecock's position. In conclusion, I won't play badminton there again. I recommend either adapting the court for other suitable sports or addressing the practical issues with the current setup. Swimming-related sports might be more suitable here than badminton.
Negative experience: Change your hours online. Says open till 9.30. We arrived at 6.30 and told is closed.
Fantastic experience: Great environment and staff. Water was clean and facilities were well maintained
Negative experience: I feel like this place needs an upgrade it’s the same since the last time I came 10 years ago and why can’t they make toddlers area more exciting like Albany, it was so packed and didn’t help when the main pool area was closed off
Positive experience: Reasonable place for the kids. Staff are friendly and nice. Kid's are free to swim.
Negative experience: It's gross, i wear glasses and there was like a thick oily layer on my glasses, I had to use my togs to clean them I couldnt see thru them!! Just yuk.. real off putting.
Fantastic experience: A wave pool, massive slide, couple of kid pools, a family/kid friendly spa pool, an adults only spa pool, sauna etc. Low prices, something like $8-5.50 for a parent with a kid (depending on age) kids are free.
Negative experience: Pools are really dirty inside the changing rooms. Also my 5 year old son nearly drowned and the lifeguard was watching him and then did absolutely nothing about it.i dont even know why they have lifeguards if they are not able to save people in the water so i had to jump in my self to save him myself. If your lifeguard cant swim or cant see dont hire them.
Positive experience: It is a popular swimming pool, sometimes have to wait in the line. Today the wave pool is not operating , so only two small children's pools are working!! Not suitable for any 7+.
Fantastic experience: Very nice pool, love the wave pools and the slides. (Also very cheap ticket) The only downside is that some areas are a bit dirty but other than that this is a very good venue for parties
Fantastic experience: It was the first time my kid went to a swimming pool and she had a very good time in toddler pool. Very friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice spa, sauna and steam room. Will come back with my family. Thanks.
Fantastic experience: Great pool for the family. Excellent changing facilities. Lots for the kids to do. Wave pool is broken (early Jan 2023) but the rest of it was so good it's still 5 stars
Negative experience: After we had 20 minutes slide closed the service, they should let us know when they take money when we entered. Then my kids using the slide when one of the lifeguards came and the kids were under the height limit and not allowed to use the slide. They should do a high check before taking the money. We all understand the school holiday peak season but should take a reasonable treat to the customers. Was bad.
Negative experience: Didn't even let us enter when 1 hour was still left for closing. Staff was very rude and unhelpful
Positive experience: Good facilities, kids loved the waterslide yesterday and the spa, sauna and steam room were great for the adults. Would recommend you hire more cleaners to go around the facility constantly though.
Fantastic experience: Took the grandkids long wait to get in but well worth hhe wait had a awesome day 4*...
Negative experience: The toilets in the men's room are diabolical. I was shaving and saw the cleaner completely skip them. No wonder they stink
Negative experience: Had the most terrible experience yesterday, there was a sign saying pool had reached max capacity which is okay, but we waiting 2 hours in the line to even get into the pool. I know that when people leave that’s when more people can go in, but we saw Atleast 50 people leave and about 5 people get let in. Which doesn’t really add up to me, all the workers where on their phones and looked very uninterested. I went up to the lady at the front and had told her I was here for nearly 2 hours and was wondering how much longer did I need to wait because I had 2 young kids with me who had been waiting, which she responded with “no you haven’t” then proceeded to ask what time I had arrived. I confirmed with her the time and then she told me maybe to go somewhere else. It was nearly 3pm at this point and I had travelled 40 minutes to even get here. The pool area looked empty, 80% of the people even in there were at that cafe, which is so confusing to me because there wasn’t very many people swimming. When we finally got in, the waves had stopped so the kids where disappointed that they had waited so long just to swim in a normal pool. There’s needs to be a better system here, because I’m never coming here again. And the workers need to be more friendly, understanding, and they needa look like they actually wanna be there because I didn’t feel welcomed at all.
Positive experience: 停車空間很多,有專屬於自己的運動團體。
Negative experience: paru . family changing rooms smelt like pissy pants . staff seemed unhappy
Negative experience: Never go back again, came there twice for wave pool, first time said wave pool and spa closed, second time waited on the line for 40mins, still doesn’t have capacity to get in
Negative experience: Every time I try to visit here their facilities are either closed or maintenance going on. For example last week during school holidays reception advised no spa or sauna working! the previous visit they were open but facilities were closed early due to some issue no sign anywhere so I hate to be going to this pool for these reasons in future
Negative experience: Thought I'd hit the sauna here for the second time since reopening n once again think I caught a cold rather than a swet. Sauna Room Temperature sitting at below 38 degree c In hottest corner I could find .. ♂️
Negative experience: Reopened the front half and instantly had a terrible experience. Cold sauna and steam rooms and confrontational staff, plus huge doors letting all the heat out with each swing. Over crowded lanes with no order and slow swimmers across the board, and still no 50m lanes in sight. I wish another Auckland pool was open later also.
Fantastic experience: สะดวก สะอาด คุ้มราคา
Positive experience: 吗
Positive experience: 23年4月20日来的,现在在装修,没有桑拿,儿童泳池,有专业的泳道开放,1.2--1.8米深
Negative experience: 办了会员卡,每次进去都要排队,花费太多时间,下次再也不会去
Positive experience: Was fine, just a bit hoha when trying to water walk and raise half the floor for water aerobics so you scrape your legs if your tall
Negative experience: Unfortunately, this place has gone massively downhill. Hardly any facilites for families are open now. I understand this is because of the flood damage, and hope they can get it completely back up and running asap
Fantastic experience: Has a sauna which i thought was really cool! The hydroslide and the wave pool weren't going when I was there, but very nice set up for a public pool
Positive experience: The pool is quite decent, lots of areas to explore. One issue I had is every time I'm there the Hydro slide never opens when it's supposed to.
Positive experience: By far the cheapest swimming I only paid a dollar and my grandbabies were free ..3 hrs lata tired and happy grand babies best to go with food and extra cash as the kiosk hot chips and chicken nuggets are a must for the lil swimmers omg also enjoyed my coffee ...all in all a great outing
Negative experience: Hugely disappointed since my return, post covid. I'm here mostly for the sauna, steam and spa, on the weekends. In fact, there's very little difference of the functionality of all three S's. Even the new, sauna and steam rooms, albeit, swapped locations. It hasn't made one bit of difference. They still malfunction i.e. closed for repairs, or last Sunday at 6:30 am, arrived to find three S's not open till 8:00 am, due to staff shortage. I drove over to Mt Albert Aquatic Pools, at MAGS, 12 mins away. Opened at 7 am, and guess what, all three S's were working very well.
Negative experience: Too long work in progress so we have not used spa and sauna for several months without proper notice online. I visited there 3 times for nothing for 4 months Please return my 10 concession card (used only once) please!!!
Positive experience: It's good to update things on the Web daily like sauna will be closed at 7. It's good to know. Not at the reception when we arrive. Otherwise it's a great place.
Fantastic experience: We have just moved into the area and this is our local pools. I was really impressed with the facility and the staff were friendly and totally focussed on their mahi. It was free for our tamariki and an enjoyable afternoon. We will definitely be visiting here often. Highly recommend
Negative experience: Great place WHEN you can get in and the facilities are actually operational. Consistently long wait times to get in and frequent maintenance issues mean it's a gamble every time you come to westwave. A serious upgrade or an additional facility in West Auckland is clearly needed
Positive experience: Very good gym with a lot of space and machines. Leisure pool is not the cleanest one in Auckland I can say. However, I see some improvements in the Last year or so.
Positive experience: Never enough seats and tables, parents are all standing around the pools. Not enough parking. 2 hr parking is way too short for kids to enjoy the pools. The number of parkings should be increased.
Negative experience: It use to be good but I got sick of it being gross, people swim in their street clothes and undies, u either comeback with a infection, chemical burn or don't get a swim at all cos the website doesn't say when the facilities are open which always seem out of operation. Mabe training the workers to ph test properly so people don't get burned would be nice. I definitely think there is a management problem with the pool and the council oversight, they must be good friends for this to have gone as far as it has.
Fantastic experience: As a full paying member, I have access all pools, sauna, steam, spa's, both gyms & all fitness classes. The cleaners do an amazing job as do all the instructors. Always treated with kindness & respect, my 2nd home!
