DANCE FOR LIFE ACADEMY

Fantastic experience: If you are considering doing Ballet as an adult, this is honestly the place to do it! They have so many different options for classes and I was so happy to find a studio that has the option of structured syllabus-style learning. The teachers are wonderful and make sure they know their students well so they can help progress them in a way that is unique to each individual. The community is very friendly and welcoming too. One of my favourite parts about dancing here is the annual show! We actually get to perform on a stage in a theatre with costumes and everything! It's optional of course, and we spend months preparing. Any one from any level is able to participate in it and it's an incredible journey to be apart of, and it's a time when the whole community is able to get together and support each other as it's no easy task, but one that is very rewarding in my opinion. All in all, I often find myself counting down the days until my next class. Cannot recommend DFLA enough!

Fantastic experience: The group motivation, the improvement in strength, fitness and balance, the sheer exhilaration -although nerve-wracking at times- of dancing on stage in a performance (purely voluntary). and the grace and beauty of ballet, make this type of exercise the best. You don't have to be young - old-age pensioner here!

Fantastic experience: Never knew I could get in to Ballet as an Adult until I came by Dance for Life. They made the whole experience of coming into what's usually seen as an elite sport really welcoming but true to the art form. All of the tutor have been so professional and inspiring and I am at home now here! Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Dance For Life Academy has been a crucial part of my recovery from long term chronic illness. I have always loved dance and thought I would give ballet a go to try and strengthen my muscles to help aid my joints. After lots of research I joined DFLA and did their initiation course as their programme is very adult beginner friendly. I cannot recommend this enough to anyone and everyone through all walks of life, they take you through the Cecchetti method from the core basics and have a real focus on technique and preventing injury. The teachers are warm and friendly and very understanding and supportive of everyone’s needs and ability. For those who love to perform there is a yearly recital that is optional to perform in with costume and all. I have loved making so many new friends and have loved seeing my body become stronger and am in less joint pain than I was 2 years ago. Thank-you to Kathy and all the teachers at DFLA (especially Mikaela and Rosalie) and I can’t wait to see how my body improves even more in the future.

Fantastic experience: It is truely a joy to come to classes twice a week. I never feel like I have to drag myself along, it’s more than exercise, it’s uplifting and an escape from every day life. No one cares that I don’t have proper turn-out or a bung knee. Everyone is accepted in all our shapes and sizes, and the skilled teachers will always allow for our physical limitations.

Fantastic experience: Over the past five years DFLA has become my home from home and very much my ‘happy place’ My teachers have the expertise and confidence to teach my Senior Swans classes that ensures we all are made welcome, are safe, and all the while having a great time dancing to the best of our individual abilities. Fantastic experience: DFLA is such a great Dance Studio! As an older dancer with experience as a young adult, I was keen to return to a dance studio that would support my needs as a mum, worker, and community member with expertise and finesse. I love the classes! They are challenging but accessible, creative but focused on excellent ballet principles. There is no judgment about what stage of dancing you are at, and there are no ballerina divas here! It's incredibly supportive and professional at the same time. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: After dancing throughout my childhood and adolescence I found myself missing dance as a creative and challenging outlet. I emailed Dance for Life for suggestions on what class might be suitable for my level of experience and they got back to me quickly and were really helpful. While I was nervous to go for my first class I found a diverse, welcoming and caring community of dance teachers and dancers. Even though I'm not as dance fit as I was as a teenager, I've always felt really comfortable in the classes and I am really grateful I decided to start dancing again. I feel motivated to keep improving at my own pace with the encouragement of my teachers.

Fantastic experience: My daughter has done both ballet and dance fusion with DFLA for a number of years. It’s great having class time options to suit our needs as I work full time, early evening and weekend dance classes have been the only way we can attend and we are so grateful this academy offers those options. She loves the classes and the teachers. Her dance technique has improved and she has good overall body awareness, which has lent well to other disciplines and skills such as swimming. I recommend DFLA classes for kids.

Fantastic experience: DFLA has the most wonderful teachers who really understand the adult body and dancer. I started having never danced before, thinking I couldn't do it. Over 2 years later the classes are the highlight of my week. I have made some wonderful new friends & have more confidence in myself. You will find absolutely all abilities, ages, sizes at DFLA and everyone is so welcome

Fantastic experience: Returning to ballet after aiming to be a professional ballerina was a daunting feeling, but the teachers' reassurance, comfort and talent made these feelings disappear. My weekly ballet class at DFLA is one of my favourite times of the week. I feel free of work, life and children worries and have also made wonderful like-minded friends.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love dancing at DFLA and I think it is the best dance school for adults out there today. All of the teachers are lovely and so patient. They treat us with respect and always give us so much encouragement. It is so nice to be able to still dance in your 60s, 70s and 80s and not get cast aside because you are too old and will never become a prima dancer which is what happens in most other dance schools. This school is so very special in my opinion and to give us all a chance to still dance on stage every year is just the icing on the cake. Thanks DFLA you are just the BEST

Fantastic experience: I travel from the North Shore every Thursday for my Senior Swans 1 hour class and half hour Repertoire. I thoroughly enjoy my time there. The teachers are wonderful - knowledgeable, caring and helpful with technique. It is such a welcoming, inclusive environment and I highly recommend the Dance for Life Academy for anyone returning to ballet or starting their dancing dream. You will be welcomed with open arms and remember "a body in motion, stays in motion".

Fantastic experience: When I apprehensively walked into the Academy over four years ago, I was 60 years old, creaky of knee, and new to ballet. I never expected what would happen -- that it would become such a joyful part of my weekly routine. The studio is light-filled, the teachers are infinitely encouraging, the other dancers have become kindred spirits, and the lessons are just so much fun. I've surprised myself -- and quite a few of my friends! I have discovered a late-in-life passion (and I can bend, swoop and lean over much better), and my gratitude is permanent. Turns out that what they say is true: It's never too late!

Fantastic experience: A wonderful place to learn excellent technical and have lots of fun. You can take the chilled approach and just turn up to class, or practice lots and do exams! Fantastic teachers, great communication too, with optional social events that always involve cake!

Fantastic experience: As an advanced adult dancer, it was great to find a place that has an open class that suits me perfectly. The studio is beautiful and Kathy is a wonderful teacher/owner. There are lots of class opens for every level from the absolute beginner to advanced student. And not just ballet, but also jazz, contemporary and barre classes. Plus fun workshops too!

Fantastic experience: I love learning to dance with AAAB! You begin with an Initiation Course and work your way up from there - usually with the same group of dancers you started with. It is wonderful seeing your group progress. Kathy is a fantastic teacher, reading her students so well - knowing who has natural talent, and who needs a little more support.
