We offer traditional shotokan karate classes for all ages in the Eastern bays, St Thomas's school, Allum St, Kohimarama, Auckland. (Tue&Thu 6-7:30pm)
As part of the Japan Karate Association, Auckland we teach traditional Shotokan Karate to students of all ages using the JKA syllabus as well as more traditional teachings that focus on the practical application of Karate.
In alignment with Karate-do (the way), we place an emphasis on Karate as self-defence alongside aspects of personal development such as self-confidence and mental and physical well being.
This creates an excellent environment for young and old to improve their health and their lives in a safe and enjoyable environment through the art of Shotokan Karate Auckland.
Our Karate class is mixed of all ages and grades with typically 3-4 black belts teaching and assisting the various age/skill groups within the class. We are an Auckland based family club and emphasise health and enjoyment as part of Karate training. Many parents train alongside their children and progress together through the grading system.
Karate training can be an extremely beneficial pursuit fro individuals of all ages. The total body involvemnet is very godo for building co-ordination, flexibility, strength and stamina. Kids Karate is a fantastic mind/body exercise system for the development of young bodies and minds. It can be particularly useful in 'burning' off some of that excess mental energy younger children sometimes have as well as allowing teenagers to build confidence and relieve stress at a time when they need to do so. Safety and fun are of course key attributes of Kids Karate in Auckland.
You are never too old to start Karate or in fact return to Karate. We have 6 black belt grade seniors of varied ages and dans who understand well the needs of adults studying the martial arts. Within a few months of training at our Auckland dojo adults will find improved mental and phsyical health. As well as for personal benefits Karate can be a very strong bonding experience if you train with your child .
As we are fortunate enough to have several black belt Karate instructors on the floor at the Auckland Karate dojo we run mixed classes (all levels, all ages) and often break the class into smaller more targetted groups. Your class experience will be based on your age, level and physical ability.

Kohi Karate (JKA Karate Auckland): Opinions
Fantastic experience: My daughter went to this class for approximately 6 years and found it to be the best karate class she has gone to, Sensai Mike is very passionate and the best possible teacher for my daughter. He teaches kids on discipline and life skills through his talks to the kids and his way of teaching. And also a very reasonable price I definitely recommend!
