GKR Karate

Fantastic experience: Went along with my granddaughter to the Tītahi Bay dojo. While watching, the Sensei’s encouraged any parents who wanted to get involved that they are welcome to join and train. Now in month 2 and finding it a great experience for fitness, wellbeing and enjoying seeing progress in our karate.

Fantastic experience: We have just tried out karate at GKR for the first time ever. They’ve been really prompt with communication and super helpful in giving us lots of information to help us make a decision about joining up. The free trial class went so well and we were able to arrive 20 mins early to settle the kids in first with the two sensei. Our kids had an amazing first experience and can’t wait for more.

Fantastic experience: A great place to learn Karate and they have classes for the whole family. You can attend many classes throughout the week and at different times. The sensei provide a friendly, fun but disciplined environment for learning. The dojo is clean and well maintained. My son is really enjoying learning Karate

Negative experience: Quick to sign you up and take your money out via direct debit but the communication is terrible!!! Dealt with a person called Hannah who was quick to sign us up, money taken out and were told we would receive a email confirmation with our card etc sent nothing came a week later. Rang again and was asked to send proof of payments being taken so I did - never got a response. Rang again 3 days later no answer also rang the owner twice they never returned my call and eventually Hannah text me saying “did I have a question” yes I did!!! Wanting to know how the Classes work etc as NO information was provided as to what happens next after signing up. I asked for a refund to which she had to ask if she could do it, yet to receive the refund so hopefully that happens. Really disappointing, worst communication and customer service she was so blasé about the whole thing. And as for the owner not returning calls - that’s terrible. Your business and franchise on the line I would have expected a lot more especially for the price which is very steep.

Negative experience: while you’re having contract will be fine . Once you end up the contract the way how they communicate is very rude. We went overseas for a holiday and missed two classes and my credit card was rejected because I was in overseas. Without any communication they put us to recoveries. The guy who spoke to us Anthony very rude and said seems no respect to clients. I am informing my experience and my friends also.

Fantastic experience: Our son has been attending GKR for 6 months now. He absolutely loves it. All the Sensai's are very approachable. They are kind and caring towards the students. Students learn so much in each class. There is a real sense of community.

Fantastic experience: My 9 yo child has been with Rolly dojo for about a year and a half, I started last June. I saw significant improvement in my child's behaviour, her health and the way she thinks. I think it also developed her confidence in day to day situation. She is always looking forward to classes and comes home happy usually. The challenges with gradings and tournaments pushed her outside her comfort zone for which she is learning how to deal with it and learn from previous experience. My own experience helps me with my health, both mentally and physically. I devote myself to my family mainly so it is good to have regular two hours per week of thinking nothing but just being present to class. I am enjoying my journey so far. All of the sensei are supportive towards your learning, very kind and knowledgeable. They give you regular feedback and help you to prepare for gradings and tournament. Overall, I highly recommend joining this dojo. Karate is for everyone indeed!
