The Kung Fu School

Fantastic experience: I usually train in Auckland but came here for a special black belt class and I had such a great time. Everyone from Shaolin Kung Fu school is so nice and welcoming no matter what class you go to. Highly recommend coming here.

Fantastic experience: Being a part of the Kung Fu School has meant more to me than I ever expected it could. I originally started it as a way to lose weight and get fit and have not only accomplished those goals, I have far exceeded them. More importantly I have developed skills that I can apply to my personal life. I have met amazing people and been trained by instructors and seniors with a clear passion for kung fu, who not only teach the skills, but share their enthusiasm for the art.

Fantastic experience: I joined The Kung Fu School at the beginning of this year and immediately fell in love with Kung Fu, I look forward to it every week! It is such an extraordinary art, I have already learnt so much about not only the style and technique but also respect and discipline as well. The people are amazing, they are so kind and funny, they make the experience so much fun, I love learning from them. Growing up, I feel I struggled to really find an extracurricular that I fully enjoyed, and so joining The Kung Fu School was the greatest decision ever, I wish I had discovered it sooner, I would have signed up years ago! I highly recommend Kung Fu to everyone who is wanting to learn self-defence or is just looking for a fun way to get fit, and not only that, you'll make some wonderful friends too! :)

Fantastic experience: Our kids have been students at the Kung Fu School in Palmerston North for a number of years. We have a girl and two boys and we had different reasons for wanting each of them to learn Kung Fu: self-defence, self-confidence, and self-discipline. They have definitely learned these things, and so much more! So proud of how far our kids have come in Kung Fu, and so pleased we chose the Kung Fu School.

Fantastic experience: I have been training with the kungfu school since 2008. From training as a child to adolescent to adult, I believe it is formative for a person to have a deep physical and cultural experience like kungfu. There is no substitute for the structure, guidance, atmosphere and educational focus that kungfu offers over other extra curricular activities. In the very long time i have done kung fu I have learnt a lot. It has shaped me into the person I am today and I will always be greatful to kungfu for making me who i am. 10/10 thank you simo and sifu, will gladly spend another 16 years with the kung fu school.

Fantastic experience: My son has been attending The Kung Fu School since he was 5 and absolutely loves it. It has given him such a great focus in terms of discipline, achievement and fun. He really looks forward to going to class each week and we as parents are so thrilled with this. He also thinks so highly of his teachers and enjoys the social aspect of it too.

Fantastic experience: My son has been attending for 5+ years, it took us awhile to find a out of school activity that he wanted to go back to after 1 term and The Kung Fu school was it. Its a great mix of structure and fun, while teaching the transferable skills.

Fantastic experience: I've been here many times for sparring class and grading. I feel great with the grading and not too much stress in it. I likes when I did some mistake of the form I am able to have a chance to redo again. The sparring class also very fun though. Sigung has lots of idea for training before sparring. Yesterday was my last sparring class here and I really appreciate it. The training was very special last night and thanks for sigung to let me had a try of escaping from a big guy when he is lying on my body lol. I think it was a good challenge and a valuable experience for me.

Fantastic experience: I started my Kung Fu journey 8 years ago primarily to get fit and do something fun with my husband. Kung Fu offers not only a group to stay fit with - it gives you a chance to learn some life skills, have fun, learn values and grow yourself, and achieve goals you never thought you could (oh plus learn some pretty amazing weapons!). Perhaps most importantly though it gives you something to feel part of - a family!

Fantastic experience: I have been training at the school for over an year now. Started off to just learn some new skills and to have new physical challanges. The instructors are very helpful and encouraging. I enjoy my every second of training here.

Negative experience: This school was horrible. I went there for 3 years and most of the time me and my sister were yelled at and humiliated by the owners Simo and Sifu. Once I saw Simo yelling at a Mother because she disagreed with something. And another time she yelled at a small boy and then started dragging him across the room by his sleeve. It was obvious that the boy scared and he looked like he was going to cry. The last straw - for me - was when Simo and Sifu announced that we were going to do a performance for their anniversary. Normally this would be fine but we had to perform weather we liked it or not. Simo yelled "SHAME ON YOU" at me, my partner and some other people just because we were confused and didn't know what to do. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS KUNG FU SCHOOL TO ANYONE. (Reply to Craig: Whatever my dad said in the email does not mean you are immediately forgiven for everything that happened to me, my sister and the other children.)

Fantastic experience: 7 years ago my oldest son wanted to do martial arts and I am proud because he learned a lot in those 7 years like respecting elders, having a positive mindset and staying strong. I also have another son who goes there and its good to hear that he has fun playing games and talking to his friends and taking on challenges just like his brother. I highly recommend going to the kung fu school!

Fantastic experience: I've been training for since I was 7 and since then Kung Fu is like home every time I attend to class Sifu and Simo always have new things for me to learn. they teach me how to be caring towards people and the environment, to show respect, to try new things, to be strong but calm in a physical and mental way and they also do some fun things like play games that uses teamwork.

Fantastic experience: I have been doing Shaolin Kung Fu for 7 years and it is a great source of discipline, it boosts self confidence, you learn self defense, and best of all you make friends along the way. So over all I definitely recommend it to people of all shapes and sizes.

Negative experience: A very bad experience, the last time I was explaining to them about the grading fees, one of the coaches came and shouted at me rudely.They only revere money and do not pay attention to any thing else I don't recommend them at all

Fantastic experience: been training at the Kung Fu school in Petone for 6 years now and it's the best thing I've ever committed to. It has built my confidence so much. Even with the ups and downs it comes with I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age with any background.

Negative experience: My older child has learned 1 year Kungfu here, and I paid the block fees on time every month. After I just paid the registration fees this year ( and this is weird, everywhere except this school only charges the registration fees once, but this school charges registration fees every year), i took my little son to attend their trial class on last Friday. Today I wanted to explain to their headmaster that my little son is too little and did not quite understand, and I will bring him back when he grows a bit older. But she hasn't given me any chance to speak. When i told her my little son couldn't attend the class , she started yelling to me in front of whole class. I only took my little son to this class on last Friday, but she insisted that he attend the trial class for twice. It looked like I was taking advantage of her. She kept pointing at me when she talked and asked me to leave very rudely. Anyway it was a very awful experience. They were so rude to their customer and did not show any respect to me at all. . . I have just paid the whole year registration fee and this month block fee for my older son, and they were refused to refund me, but we won't go to this class any more. ————————————————————————————————————————— Feedback I don't think you asked me to leave politely. You were yelling at me, very rude. It was your teacher yelled at me first, just because I didn't immediately agree to allow my little son to learn martial arts in your school. It was you "causing a scene in front of a class of young children"!! And I explained to you before that my little son did not go to the trial class for the first time because he fell asleep in the car. He only went to the trial class once, but your teacher insisted that he came twice without the record checking. I don't think anyone will feel good about being wronged. In addition, my six-year-old son was standing next to me when you yelled at me. He was still your student at that time. Have you ever thought about the confusion and harm you caused him? To be honest, I have never complained about any business since I came to New Zealand for 20 years. You are the first and hopefully the last.

Negative experience: I give it 2 stars and not one only because the kids did improve their skills in kung fu. My daughter was shouted at in a humiliating way at Christmas party last year. My kids are stressed and try to avoid some of the teachers completely. I have been to another martial school and my kids never faced disrespect there. Other parents I talked to are just fed up by the disrespect their kids face over there.

Negative experience: Awful experience, with Kung Fu academy Ferguson Street. Just horrible owners there teaching is yelling, humiliation, stomping on children's feet. Openly say it's not for fun. Stress my children out so much they would not want to go. They were so excited to start at the beginning too. Sifu and Simo don't let parents watch classes they lock parents outside the door and hold kids well over 15mins after class, they don't discuss any issues unless the want your child to leave class, spent hundreds of dollars on uniform, registering fees, term fees and grading to be treated like how we have been I'd never recommend this to any families. The teacher of pee wee class in front of my 5 yr old asked me what's wrong with n him called him disable there's nothing wrong with child n thatattitude is offensive what if he I'd have shouldn't be approaching a parent like that. when tried to discuss my concerns I was told they choose who they teach and to pick up child up he was made to wait outside in barefoot in rain for me to return. Since then have enrolled children else where and havehmazing teacher 100% better.

Fantastic experience: We have had a great experience in the pee wee class, what a fantastic environment! My daughter absolutely loves to come to training, it's all she can talk about. Her confidence is through the roof, it's such a wonderful thing to see. I will be bringing my boys along when they are old enough, for sure!

Fantastic experience: The Shaolin Kung Fu School is an amazing martial arts school that focuses not only on the martial aspect of Kung Fu, but also the philosophies and art behind it. For me, this Kung Fu school has guided me, challenged me, and supported my learning in a positive, safe environment.
