Fantastic experience: Yes, it has changed. Great sauna with good light because of the new windows. I like to read the paper and watch the people. Of course it should be better. Has taken 10 months to get it back up and running.

Positive experience: Tatty and neglected outside (litter/mess). Pretty good inside.

Positive experience: Staff is very friendly! Everything at good level. But just few minutes after I get out of "Spa Hot tube" i got an allergy reaction to water in the hot tube, only me, my girlfriend and other visitors were fine. I don't know what kind of chemicals are mixed in that water, but I have an allergy to it.

Negative experience: Well trained, conscientious staff (including all management) would routinely pick up rubbish outside the building. Facility presentation is an internal and external responsibility. Pride in the workplace shows you care. Everybody notices the shabby, neglected state of the car park and the front of this iconic building. Try harder. The public deserves better.

Positive experience: I liked the diligence of the staff ensuring we sat on towels and didn’t take water bottles inside. But I think the paper bands system should be updated to a more waste-saving option. My recommendation is a trust-based system: we pay you money that you trust is legitimate, and we use your sauna that we trust is not spiked with narcotics. Paper bands does not help me trust your sauna, it's a flawed system

Fantastic experience: One of the best visits to a fitness centre ever, the man Terry was so helpful, made everything a breeze. Would highly recommend for all aspects of fitness.

Positive experience: Very affordable prices :) as a community sports centre it had everything you need- gym, sauna, full length swimming pool, hot tubs, etc. Being next to the ocean was normal to see regulars take an ocean dip and then visit the centre to use its facilities. Toilets, change rooms and showers are quite basic. BYO towels or purchase from counter.

Fantastic experience: Great hot tubs w a view out to the sea, nice to go outside swim to the pontoon, come back in to the hot tub. Great aqua classes.

Negative experience: It’s 5 January and Freyberg Pool has closed at 2:30pm, making it impossible for anyone who is back to work to go for a swim or a workout after work. Every other business in Wellington is back to work as usual except for this one which not only promotes fitness and wellbeing but is paid for by Wellington ratepayers. If your staff want a longer holiday, find more staff to cover for them: there are plenty of students looking for work in this dire economy. There’s nothing “positive” about “reduced hours”.

Negative experience: Wir waren sehr enttäuscht. Vielleicht ist der Kontrast für uns als Europäer, (Deutsche) zu groß gewesen. Für Fitness geeignet, nettes Personal, Sauna ist Schrott! Wir wollten auf unserer Reise einen entspannten Nachmittag in einer Sauna / Spabereich verbringen. Leider haben wir nur eine Schwimmhalle vorgefunden in dem es alles zusammen in einem Raum gab: 25 m Schwimmbereich, zwei Whirlpools, und einer kleinen Sauna welche 2 m entfernt von neben den Schwimmbahnen ist. Für Saunagänger aus Deutschland, nordischen europäischen Ländern und allen anderen welche den europäischen Saunagangstile bevorzugen, nicht zu empfehlen. Sehr schade!

Fantastic experience: Great friendly service from all staff. Sauna and hot tubs are great plus you are allowed to go outside for a dip in the bay to then return and warm up in the spa. Water fountains available inside and out. Gym is small but has everything you need. The entire facility does get very busy on evenings after work. Changing rooms could be a little cleaner. Showers have okay water pressurebut not amazing

Positive experience: Sauna is nice and new, but the temperature is way too low, im not sure its effective and delivering the same heath benefits you’d expect from a well heated sauna

Negative experience: Sauna not hot enough. Health and safety risk not allowing water bottles into sauna. Now irrelevant reasoning as the elements are not exposed. Staff are great.

Negative experience: Used to come all of the time and loved it but since the new sauna and spa has been put in the temperature is not nearly high enough for a good experience. It takes me at least 15 minutes to start sweating in the sauna and by that time they recommend you hop out? I hope they take note of kilbirnie’s temperature. I miss this place.

Negative experience: Quite disappointed with the recent changes at the Fryberg pool. The new amenities look great, but what's the point of spending 6 months refurbishing if the outcome is worse than it used to be? The new Sauna is just a bit above room temperature, not hot enough, same with the hot tub. I hope this can be fixed, it used to be such a great place

Negative experience: New sauna is pretty weak, temperature needs to be increased considerably. No water bottles makes no sense in there with no element now which was the only reason the rule was applied. Staff keep coming and opening doors to ask people to remove bottles or sit on a towel. Sauna has 2 doors for no reason which increases heat loss. Sad because I loved the old one.

Positive experience: Awesome Aquafit instructors...Kristen on Thursdays, Annie on Mondays and Wednesdays. Helpful, efficient front desk etc staff.

Positive experience: Convenient location with heaps of parks. Sadly they allowed water aerobics 3 lanes leaving only 2 lanes for swimming and 1 lane for aqua jogging. Swimming was nearly impossible as both lanes had many swimmers of various speeds making it congested. 2 spa pools that albeit small, were empty of people and a great place to relax. Helpful staff.

Positive experience: Great location, good staff. Not very flexible hours as it's not 24 hours. My only complaints are that the gym smells of chlorine, gave me headaches and not enough equipment. This gym gets busy and when it does hope your either leaving or already got a machine.

Negative experience: Service was terrible the young guy looked at my sister & I with disgust. This place needs an up grade especially their spa pools, so reminded me of the baby blue shell swimming pool, and one was out of order even the sauna was out of order. It's ashame they haven't upgraded their spa pools like the local public community spa pools because this place definitely has the space and a grand view for it too. 2 stars for trying to be nice to my sister and I, who felt categorized into...."not the normal looking women" by the staff and their service

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place! Awesome views of the ocean whilst you work out and relax in the hot pools. You can go in the sauna and then go and dip in the ocean. Friendly staff and personal trainers, Tuku is the best!

Fantastic experience: I don't go swimming here I use the wharf for fishing which is awesome for little ones to learning how to catxh a fish so if you are reading this... Take you babies and park up for the day. if they get bored theres sand and water and a playground. make sure to bring some food as the little cafe only has ice cream drinks and a couple of baked goods!

Negative experience: I’ve attempted to come to the sauna here twice in the past four days. Drove half an hour to get here paid for parking and both times had issues. Sunday they closed two hours early but their operating hours were not updated on Google, and today their sauna and spa are both out of order. The spa has been out of order for almost 2 weeks, when this place is functioning properly I quite enjoy my it but they’re really slipping lately and they don’t have friendly front desk team to help when issues like this arise.

Fantastic experience: Bright sunlit indoor pool, friendly helpful staff and clean modern sometimes busy pool. Beware a few patron can be somewhat territorial, oblivious to their own speed fast or slow and appropriate swim levels lanes, but generally a very friendly environment and happy to recommend.

Fantastic experience: Good place for a sociable spa they are like the ones for home 2 of them cant help but end uo chatting to people in there with you, good coffee outside you get a liittle stick of choclate with it right on the esplanade beautuful view across the water. Metred parking out front heaps of them get yr carpark spot number put it in the machine and stick in credit card or eftpos cheap for an hr.5 star

Positive experience: It's an alright place to go but it's very pricey for a casual session ($25 from memory). I only wanted it for the gym so it was alot for 30 minutes use. However the facilities are nice and clean and the gym looks down into the pool and surrounding harbour. Great staff.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and patrons. A 33.33m x 6 lanes pool overlooked by great gym facilities plus a view of the Harbour. Best to avoid peak times. 0800 to 1600 hours is a good time to swim weekdays.

Fantastic experience: Right next to Oriental Bay Beach the location is perfect for that freshwater swim to cool off after a vigorous jogging or dog-walking session on the beach or esplanade. The glass building has a very attractive style that stands out as a distinctive landmark for miles around. Indoors the facilities are very good and well maintained, and staff's dedication to service is par excellence. After working up an appetite from your swim there is no shortage of options for breakfast or lunch as there is a good selection of cafes offering great coffee and an appetising menu along this stretch of the Parade.
