Waterworld Te Rapa is our flagship aquatics centre and it offers something for everyone. With six pools including toddler and outdoor pools, hydroslides, a full-service gym, land and water-based exercise classes, learn to swim classes and more, we’re here to welcome you seven days a week.
* The outdoor lido pool is open seasonally from mid November each year if the weather is above 20 degrees. Hydroslide open 11.00am to 6.00pm during school holidays. Speed slide seasonal only. Hours vary depending on weather.
Waterworld: Opinions
Negative experience: Food and drink is a rip-off. - $5.50 for 600 ml coke etc - $4.50 for water - $7 for large flat white - $12 for wedges - $7.60 for a pie Otherwise friendly staff.
Positive experience: The kids love this place. The hydroslide was a big hit. It's crazy busy during the school holidays so be prepared for a busy pool.
Negative experience: Always a 50/50 chance if its open. Frequently closed to the public for private lessons and events. Poorly run
Negative experience: Not sure as this place never answers the phones ...all the staff and still too hopeless to answer a ph call
Positive experience: The pools are nice, but the floor everywhere is grimey, and the spa looks very dirty. The additional prices for diving boards and spa is pushing it
Fantastic experience: Had a great day at the pool with little kids. A fun and unexpenssive way to make the most of your day!
Fantastic experience: $ 24 monthly fee access to everything
Positive experience: Family favourite for a hot sunny day
Negative experience: Rude reaction lady. Really bad behaviour but her. Not acceptable, this is now last class of my son, I'll. Somewhere else for his swimming class, but not here.
Positive experience: Aqua group is enjoyed. Larger group may cover the excess numbers if services allow increased numbers.
Fantastic experience: Very nice friendly people clean place very enjoyable overall
Positive experience: Spa pool needs to be at least 39° was still good though
Positive experience: Pretty expensive 8 dollars per adult. We pay as family in pukekohe $4.50 for swimming for a family of 4, and has a kids splash pad. Kids splash pad area not working due to seasonal? This complex should be more family friendly. No slides or water play for kids under 5. Its ok but much prefer some of the pools up in Auckland.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous joined 3weeks ago and using hydrotherapy pool, made huge difference in sleep and reducing pain.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff, place is always clean and tidy, excellent facilities pools. And fitness areas
Positive experience: Great place. Don't know why you have to pay as a spectator to supervise your own kids.
Negative experience: water was too wet my brother was doing this the whole time
Positive experience: Kids loved it. But as a parent non swimmer, it was so hot, and strong chlorine smell.
Fantastic experience: Very good. Very nice. I like.
Negative experience: Manager Caitlin is useless. Numerous calls and emails over 8 weeks with no responses and reception say she is at work. Find better staff :)
Fantastic experience: Well run, great clean pools
Positive experience: Waterworld delivers a splashing good time with thrilling attractions and a lively atmosphere, ideal for waterpark enthusiasts seeking unforgettable adventures and endless fun in the water. Would definitely recommend!
Negative experience: Someone spewed in the pool. Pool closed no refund.
Fantastic experience: Kids had a blast! Cheap entertainment!
Negative experience: I can’t believe they charge extra for the kids to do bombs off the diving platforms. That’s ridiculous. No bombs allowed anywhere else either.
Positive experience: Was glad the pool was indoor. Mokos enjoyed their time. Showers awesome. Thank you.
Positive experience: Wish they had a deeper pool to swim in. My kids enjoy going there.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place for all the family clean friendly staff
Negative experience: Went today from tauranga diving boards closed speedslide closed went to grab some food cockroch on there bench not impressed
Fantastic experience: I just love meeting up with my friends in the Hydro pool and new faces too .
Positive experience: Little disappointing, they closed off a lot of the larger indoor pool forcing kids to crowd into a tiny corner. No room to lane swim.
Negative experience: Website needs to be clearer when the lap pool is unavailable vs available State’s competition is on but not that 25m still available
Negative experience: Make sure you call and get through to customer service before you miss a lesson (even though they never answer the phone). Don't listen when they tell you in person that you don't have to call. I listened and I missed paid lessons, didnt call cause was told didnt have to, and just went to use a make up lesson and told I could not. Very frustrating.
Negative experience: 4 Men wearing underwear into the 50metre pool?...really?...unwashed, straight off the street. When confronted by a staff member after a complaint was made, the men put their street pants on over their underwear and were aloud into the pool...DIgusting and insulting to others!! I have seen this on numerous times lately. They need to buy swimwear like the rest of us. The wearing of either underwear or street clothes is not permitted as pool rules are Clear for all to see. These men were let off as they said they didnt have togs. This is extremely unhygenic and adds body sweat and dirt into the pool. Also makes conditions slipperly and dangerous for others. Follow the Rules....or dont GO!!
Positive experience: Nice place to cool off, but not all the hydroslides working 100%
Fantastic experience: Loved it. Just dont put your googles on or you will see hair, skin and other stuff lol
Positive experience: The place over all good. With limited slides options. One of the Staff was very rude at the counter, But other 2 were smiling and serving.
Fantastic experience: Plenty of parking and Entrance was under $20 2kids 2 adults plenty of life guards heaps of pool space kid friendly as with a splash pad and Minnie heated pool at 300 deep hydro slides and deep pools
Fantastic experience: Went there with the family and had an absolutely amazing time. Outdoor and indoor there is plenty of fun to be had. Take a gazebo, bbq spend the day. Indoor and outdoor waterslide fun and safe the kids. Spa's on offer forum and dad to chill. Go check it out.
Fantastic experience: Today was our first time here. We are a family of 6, with children aged 7-11. This place is awesome! Great value for money and plenty of different water-based activities to keep everyone entertained. Will definitely be back.
Negative experience: average pool, sometimes dirty in the changing rooms. Sauna is small and not hot enough, steam sauna is not working. Be aware that theoretically it is a 50 meter pool but in fact they split it in two 25 meter pools. Someone has stolen my old Converse shoes one day there... do not leave any stuff in the changing room ever.
Fantastic experience: Good family day out stuff was so helpful as it was owe first time there we didn't want to leave
Positive experience: Excellent prices compared to our small town. The line was huge during school holidays for the hydroslide. 3 rides in one hour. Great facilities though. Had a good time. Lots of seating.
Fantastic experience: We got here early and set up. Many pools to choose from. Large outdoor areas which are well supervised by the friendly staff. My kids loved the inflatables pool and the diving boards. Recommended
Fantastic experience: Wow !! Water World ~ a family friendly world class pool. With amazing friendly and caring trained staff ... Delightful safe space for whole family !!
Fantastic experience: Awesome day out even though it was rainning kids thoroughly enjoyed the pools and activities, obstacles splash in the pool, massive
Negative experience: Visited on a Sunday, what a mistake. The main pool was closed for a private function. The smaller pool was full of people and kids and I mean full. The sauna and steam room was closed which was one of the reasons for visiting (apparently they had a fire last year and haven’t fixed it yet). Hot tub was nothing to write home about. Clean facilities and changing rooms though.
Fantastic experience: Here again on a teacher's only day, with grandkids 13 and 10. This place is a classic, for all ages and a firm favorite venue for all the kids. Always well maintained and clean, attentive lifeguards and lovely staff.
Fantastic experience: It's a nice place to relax and exercise without problems, everything is very clean and tidy. I thank to Kiri who treated me very kindly even though my level of english is not good :)
Negative experience: Worst experience ever trying to book with them! So uncooperative i had booked a year in advance for 4hrs then it was canceled due to renovations, then when it was done i tried rebooking for 4hrs at over triple the cost now I wasn't allowed more than 2hrs because rules have changed. Then they didn't know how to manage the bookings because I kept getting multiple emails sent back with changes and old booking forms which were invalid then new booking forms which they couldn't process, and because of that they asked that I physically come in, I don't live in that town so I had to get someone to book. By now its close to the event day and I got my partner to ask of he could book under his name but have the same party they said yes but the time slot was already taken barring in mind they said we couldn't have 4hrs to begin with. So we did what we could with that time slot but when it was time to leave they were so rude and staff was saying if you don't get out now you will have to pay again, that maori one too! The least they could've done was say ok time to pack your slot is done not expect us to pack up during our time slot and set up during the time slot wheres the time to enjoy and eat!! Anyways will never book through them again they are horrible
Negative experience: If some of the staff and some of the patrons at the hydrotherapy pool have a complaint to make about how Waterworld is run may I suggest ANY feedback is most likely to be acted upon if said feedback is submitted via the appropriate channels. Complaining loudly and for prolonged periods of time while in the hydrotherapy pool only serves to distract and annoy other patrons using the facility. The staff at Waterworld are too often too casual and too familiar. There needs to be a more professional approach if delivering good service and public safety are the objectives. 2 of the 4 nappy Bins were overflowing but, then given the 2 young female staff members ambling along at a glacial pace with rubbish bags picking up litter were too involved in their evidently rolicking and hilarious jokes to be able to make it to the women's change rooms. Then, the 2 older male staff members, one of which was on lifesaving duty, stood by the pool deep in conversation for 15 minutes or more. On the other side of the pool, a younger male staff member paced up and down a short distance with a lifesaving flotation device strapped to his back. There were about 4 people in the pool. When I asked a staff member about which lanes I could use he proceeded to talk relentlessly at me for some minutes, advising me repeatedly that all the information he was telling me I could get off Waterworld Facebook - he ignored my repeated response that all I asked about was lane availability at that moment. In the end, I had to walk away from him as he continued to chatter away at me. To provide a safe environment for public use, staff are required to behave professionally.
Negative experience: I would just like to say the staff need a good looking at, in particular the reception people. The maori lady was so rude to my family, she had an attitude the whole day. The customer service skills in this place are horrendous I have been reading recent reviews and these people are ruining the enjoyment for the public paying to use the facilities. From rudeness to being laughed at for having their wallet stolen from the facility come on people take note of your reviews! What was meant to be an amazing day for us and others turns into walking away fuming or in tears because you cant stand your family being subject to belittling. Wake up!
Fantastic experience:
Negative experience: So terrible that the kids pools aren't open to the public until after 11.30am on the weekends. I thought this was a public pool?
Fantastic experience: Alot of fun kids got drained just the way I like it lol
Fantastic experience: Joined for the gym and love it. Good vibe and great gear.
Positive experience: they had amazing amounts of lifeguards made swimming with the kids less stressful, the only thing is the floor feel very slimy
Positive experience: The spa was not functional, and their hydrotherapy pool is just a kids pool with warm water and a bench to sit on that produces bubbles. I expected more for the money
Fantastic experience: Awesome pools are undergoing some update work at present but the spa is very relaxing
Positive experience: I go to the gym there, not for the swimming. Staff are nice and friendly. Fellow gym users keep to themselves. What more could you ask for
Fantastic experience: An awesome place to spend the day with the kids...more seating and shade is definately needed outside by long pool...love it
Fantastic experience: Stunning swim entertainment place for whole family to enjoy. Clean and well maintained. Thank you the vigilant life guards making everyone feel safe
Positive experience: Excellent for the kids and wonderful facilities provided for those who want NBQ... The only black mark is that they desperately need to upgrade the ancient toilets... Even if they're been cleaned they look suspect
Positive experience: All the outdoor pools looked great but they were closed and so the young kids had limited space to swim.. Lots of outdoor area for picnics but only limited cooking area
Fantastic experience: Best pool in Hamilton! Nice outdoor play area and indoor pools. Spectators = $2 Child = $4
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed Hydro pools, loved it Caught the bus.
Fantastic experience: Friendly team, clean environment, fantastic place to enjoy your free time. Love their gym, their sliders and their several swimming pools options.
Negative experience: Cant believe they shut the main pool down for a swimming meet on a Staurday, 1 small pool for over 300 people, outside pools are freezing and there were 6 birthday parties booked outside, a COMMUNITY pool should hold swim meets during the week when you serve a city of over 150k people, absolutely rediculous, if a kid drowned in that 2nd pool it wouldve been utterly impossible to tell from a lifeguards position - complete rubbish, ring first b4 u go to see whats on otherwise its a write off
Fantastic experience: Nice place for learning swimming and swim for recreation. They got slides which are pretty amusing. Free parking in the premises. They got more parking in the lot opposite to the centre, the other side of the road.
Negative experience: I am giving a 1 star review because my wallet was stolen from water world Hamilton today. Not water worlds fault however when I reported this to the staff one in particular was laughing and smiling like it was funny that everything I had in the world was taken from me.
Positive experience: General admissions $7:50 each , Spa , SAUNA AND Steam room $5 , Hydroslides $5 per hour . The Pools inside were all lanes filled with people swimming lanes. The diving board was for a diving club only. The outside pools were closing around 6pm The hydroslides stopped around 6 pm The Sauna was tiny and the steam room was open to the area was not closed and the spa was also tiny Honestly I wasn't too impressed by this water world I don't think I'd go again .
Positive experience: The kids loved it, not expensive, plenty of grass area, hydro slide kids loved that. Outdoor splash for the little ones, Outdoor pool, nice heated indoor pool. It's great for families
Positive experience: A great facility ( when it is open) with a lot of potential and friendly and helpful staff . But the sauna and the steam room are the biggest let down for this place. They remain closed for more number of days of the year than they are open and no updates or relevant info in their social media either .unfortunately this has been like this for a few years now . Either it is undergoing an ‘extensive’ renovation or repair . I guess people of Hamilton/Waikato deserve better .
Negative experience: I'll evaluate this place compared to Splash Palace in Invercargill. I lived in Invercargill for a year and I used to go to Splash at least 3 times a week. Waterworld has 1 advantage: it's less busy. And the reason why is less busy is because it's way worse. The price is similar, but in Invercargill you'll have access to spa, sauna, and cold plunge for no extra charge. Here, you gotta pay extra for using similar (but worse) facilities. Btw, sauna and steam room were destroyed by a fire and not reconstructed yet, so you can't even use them for now. At Splash, you can use lockers (you just need to bring your own padlock). Here, the lockers are paid ($2 for 4 hours). The card mechanism doesn't work sometimes, which means you might not even have this option, so I wouldn't bring anything valuable ever. There is also a gym here, but it's quite limited and the equipment are not good. They also have only 1 water fountain for the whole building, which is located by the reception (I asked the lifeguard for another one and he said there isn't any). Where I came from, this would be even illegal for a place this big. I guess here is just a terrible thing you must deal with... Anyway, I'm living in Hamilton now and I'll definitely miss Splash Palace. Waterworld was just a huge disappointment. This place is terrible and, honestly, I think some people give it a good evaluation for a lack of reference. I can't see another explanation.
Positive experience: Waterworld is dang awesome. The number of pools available and places to spread out your camping gear is awesome. Menu at the food shop was a bit limited but still a good feed. Waterslides, water castles, volleyball. Plenty of activities to keep you going.... or just relax sunbathing. Great experience. Thanks.
Positive experience: Public should be informed, main indoor pool shut off, also. My ten yr old was told she's to short for a slide, got to be 1.4mtres,she's short for her age, managed to get couple turns, before ruining her day
Fantastic experience: The gym here is fantastic. Not too busy, friendly and helpful staff. A good mix of different gym goers which makes for an inclusive and comfortable environment.
Negative experience: 5 weeks of trying to get a hold of them, no one answering the phones or replying to the contact us page. BBQ's broken for weeks and no plans on repairs but still advertising them for hire. The staff have no care in the world about foul language being screamed left right and centre from the parents and children (some that look to be under the age of 10) in a facility that should be child friendly. Those same kids puching and cutting in line on the hydroslide and the lifeguards dont care at all. I wouldnt recommend anyone to hold a childs birthday here, you cant cook the lifeguards dont care, staff dont care, mould in the changing rooms.
Negative experience: Staff let this place down, lifeguards looked like they'd rather be anywhere else, clearly not watching what was happening in the pool or hydroslides; Had an injury occur within our group, not one staff member checked that she was okay, even though I went to the counter asking for an ice pack and stating she was hurt and gone into shock. Had her literally laying in stable side position in the entry way and NOT ONE staff member checked she was OK. Glad we were trained in first aid and had a first aid kit in the car. Very disappointing from beginning to end. Didn't help that we paid full price and the bigger pool was closed to the public.
Negative experience: The pools are great WHEN you can get in them. The toddler pool is shut all morning on the weekends so we can't go swimming with our two children who nap in the afternoon. When asking the staff when it would be available to the public as its a PUBLIC pool they told us to drive to Te awamutu. Hamilton City Council also don't see an issue with this. Apparently it's fine to not have public pools in Hamilton.
Fantastic experience: I want to thank you Dee for hearing our concerns last week around booking in for Aqualite. You listened to us and had obviously thought about this before our meeting and had ideas of your own which I know was appreciated. I do enjoy our classes. It is so nice to walk into the place as I have found the staff to be helpful, friendly and they smile a lot!
Negative experience: Booking in a rugby team on the weekend around one of the busiest times is poor management. Putting out a sign and saying "full capacity", as well as "one out, one in". Then people walk in and are told "Nope, we're full capacity, nobody can come in". We walked in to hear that. Then i tell my wife that we're not coming back here again and will stick to Gallagher Pools in Melville instead, only for the woman behind the counter to tell me that they're also closed. We did just come from there... and we weren't talking to you. I'll admit that cursing at her for putting her fat nose in our business was impolite.
Positive experience: Stopped off here with my son on our way through to Auckland on a hot day. Perfect place to cool down for an hour and a half and burn off some energy for the rest of the car ride. Clean facilities, friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Really great swimming pools , was clean , staff are amazing, lots of life guards , the kids love the hydroslides . Great seating areas, BBQ are available. Lil cafe is good food was really nice .
Fantastic experience: Waterworld Hamilton is a great facility with something for everyone. Very popular and can get quite busy especially if there is a swim competition on. Changing rooms were clean and pools too. Best to get there early.
Fantastic experience: I went on Thursday 27 April 2023 to Waterworld, Te Rapa, Hamilton Central... I swam in the hydrotherapy pool. I found it's great therapy and I love the spa pool in the pool and the air vents alongside the pool is relaxing and soothing. I have back and hip problems. I had dislocated my right disc in the lumbar spine region and a few years ago I was diagnosed with arthritis in my hips....so I whenever I'm feeling stressed I get pain in my shoulders and neck down my spine to the small in my back...and when it's cold outside I get sore hips... I guess I need to be prepared for hip surgery in my later years but for now it's manageable. I find wearing a back-brace can help the neck and shoulders and the posture or a visit to the physiotherapist is beneficial to have the neck and shoulders strapped for more support as well ❤️.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming and family facility with lovely outdoor spaces to spend a few hours for a BBQ or picnic.
Positive experience: Lots of facilities, just wish their hot toddler pool was open at 6 am for working adults to use for swimming laps throuh winter
Negative experience: Good when open but never open on time and closes early. Need to update opening hours so people don’t turn up at 5am and waste their time.
Fantastic experience: Haven't been for a couple of years. Everything is so fresh and clean, staff are friendly and professional. Pool temp is just right ✅
Fantastic experience: Splash attack was our go to on a Friday. Who remembers this? In the 90's. Swimming lessons and eventually school swimming sports as well. Weekends spent with cousins. Being too young for the hydroslide and then graduating to the hydroslide. Classic
Positive experience: Really nice, clean place. However, the public part of the warm pool is really small. I wish they would warm up the bigger pool a bit more too :(
Negative experience: I'm absolutely disgusted with you're customer service team & Bookings Coordinator. I booked a party for June 4th in the outside area. Making a booking was simple and easy, I physically came in and paid my deposit. Due to covid I had to cancel the party which I did 24th May. I contacted Waterworld to find out if I could receive my refund. I was told it would take 21 days as it has to go through teams and the council. When I contacted them to follow up the week later I was told I would receive my money on Tuesday 7th which didn't happen I contacted them again last week to be told it would be done Monday 13th. It is now Monday and still Nothing! I rung once again to be put on hold and i would receive a call 30 minutes later by the BOOKINGS COORDINATOR. An hour later still nothing so I rung and contacted the customer service team and this time I spoke with the team leader whom told me herself the BOOKINGS COORDINATOR wasn't in today and had the day off!! When I brought it to her attention that an hour ago her team member told me I would speak to the bookings coordinator she blamed it on her staff members. There is NO accountability, NO customer service absolutely DISGUSTING!
Positive experience: The Hydrotherapy pool. Was just the right temperature, clean and welcoming. The changing room was clean and tidy. The staff were pleasent and informative. I will be returning regularly.
Negative experience: It’s expensive. When the facility is closed down due to maintenance or COVID, they have no intention of freezing your membership or reimbursing you. It’s no different than stealing. And the worst part of it is, they don’t care. Very poor hospitality management
Positive experience: Choice of indoor and outdoor (in summer) pools and nice big garden and children play area. Plenty of lifeguards around pools and even upstairs near slides. I really like the way they put anti-slip foam mats around the pool and walkway. Reasonable clear pricing with add-ons (slides or hydrotherapy). The only critism is that outdoor pool could be a little dirty with algae on the floor or fallen leaves.
Positive experience: Staff are amazing. Facilities are okay, always kept clean but not the most modern. Dive pool isn’t the greatest for water polo but hey - better than nothing!
Fantastic experience: Staff were really good took the grandchildren loved it made lunch before we left. Had a great day got home and realized my bag was missing with wallet cash and all my bank cards etc. Rushed back and some one had handed it in. Whoever you are I sincerely thank you would recommend this place to everyone.
Negative experience: I understand these are hard times. But I have just got back from wanting to swim at Waterworld and there was NO space for me. It seems that the kids are considered throughout the entire week but for myself who is elderly and with disabilities... The choice is taken away... The "Learn to swim" group were taking up 2 lanes of the 50 m pool and on the other side of the 50m pool... Where I could of swam but unfortunately there were NO stairs! As for the 25 metre pool lots of space for the children... Only 1 lane was used but by all means that lane was not FULL!! This is so unfair.... I love swimming... And helps me... My well being and my disabilities.. But today ... I'm very disappointed and angry.
Fantastic experience: We come here for Cambridge High school Water polo sports to compete against Hamilton schools.
