Fantastic experience: Absolutely an amazing gym! Th place may not be very big, but it has everything you need and more. They provide yoga mats, blocks, ramps, yoga wheels and yoga balls in different sizes, foam rollers, and a wide range of bars. All the essential machines are also available. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. The facilities include showers, multiple toilets, and even a sauna. The place is clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Parking is easy with plenty of 60 min street spots right outside. A casual pass is only $10, and the gym is located very close to the CBD, making it super convenient. Suitable for either long-term membership or just visit while traveling, this gym is a perfect choice.

Fantastic experience: I think it’s the best gym in NZ. I have been to many gym but the staff here is the most friendliest and helping. They are always ready to help you with your queries. Greg who is owner and Personal Trainer at the gym, he’s absolutely wonderful and helping with his knowledge. If you’re visiting Christchurch I’d suggest to buy visitor pass for $10 to allow you to workout and sauna. The gym has steam sauna and it’s really best.

Positive experience: Really solid gym for a one day pass. However, as a woman, I wouldn’t go back given I overheard some misogynist comments from one of the trainers.

Fantastic experience: Recently joined the Gallery gym as I wanted a change and I love the atmosphere of this gym, definitely more of a community feel! I have been doing some PT sessions with Gregg and those have been amazing. The sessions are hard but well worth it and he really listens to what you want and makes sure you’re moving towards that goal. The gym itself is clean and the equipment is nice and easy to manage/manoeuvre on your own. Overall a great gym filled with positive people :)

Fantastic experience: I recently join the gallery gym with my daughter as it's the only gym I found that offers gym memberships from 13. This is a great gym whether you're a seasond athlete or just starting your fitness journey. The largest range of cable attachments I've seen. And a huge range of accessories free to use. The owner and staff have really created a welcoming, friendly and safe environment.

Negative experience: F U GREGG. I joined with a coworker, and was put on one of their more expensive plans, meant to receieve supplements, personal training etc through it. I had been a part of that plan for a few weeks, and had not heard anything about these benefits, I had one 'personal training' session which ended up being a 10 minute conversation about what flavour protein powder I wanted (which I then never received). I began to realise I could not comfortable afford the gym membership as I was a young student living on my own. I texted and very apologetically asked if I could be placed on a lower membership as I was also about to be moving a lot further away from the gym and realistically I could not afford the travel to and from and the membership along with student fees and rent etc. Greggs reply was very short, just saying that in oder to cancel I had to give him 150 dollars because according to him that was the cancellation fee of the cheaper membership, but when I looked through his website and the terms of the membership online, the 150 dollar amount was not stated. I tried reasoning with him and letting him know my financial situation, and also said that a 150 cancellation fee was something that should have been brought up when I asked to switch memberships. He never finalised it either, just billed me random different amounts every week to 'make up for the supplements he bought' that again I had never received or heard anything of. I was never asked to sign a new contract for the lower membership, which I pointed out, and then he sat the conversation down saying that all communication needs to be done through email, so I emailed apologising for needing to cancel and saying that I can't pay 150 dollars, and Gregg got very easy and aggressive. Saying things such as 'sadly there are people who think that they can lose weight and be fit just by having a gym membership and not putting in any effort' (directed at me clearly, because I mentioned I had barely been to his gym because I now live further away and I study. I tried to have a conversation wth him saying I would pay the cancellation fee that was on his website and that I am sorry I was cancelling, and he continued on saying he was going to send debt collectors to my housed that he is speaking with his lawyers about this. Then sent me an invoice for 26 fortnightly payments of the lower membership (to make up for the rest of the year, but 26 payments is wrong that math just doesn't work out as I had also already been there for a couple months), which came out to 416 dollars, which is is still trying to bill me for today. I again tried reasoning with him, it got nowhere and then I received an email saying I was banned from the gym and its premises. So I left it at that, I thought the drama could just be over. As of a couple weeks ago, I received yet another long nasty email from him, accusing me of vandalising his gym door at 10pm the night before, saying he has my roommate and I on camera apparently doing it, telling me he drives out to where I live every weekend to see family and that I need to 'learn who I mess with before I mess with them'. I did not vandalise his gym, I have not been near it since the last time I went to work out, and I could not have vandalised it as I was nowhere nearby. I am just a young female student trying to get by and he has been accosting me over email because I wanted to leave the gym. I explained to hm I couldn't have done it as I was at a gym in Wigram from 7pm-10pm that night then got home at 10:20pm that night, and I live 40ish minutes away from the gym. There will be cameras that show I was in Wigram at the time of the vandalism I'm sure, and my roommate drove us home from the gym and her parents witnessed us get home. When I explained this to him, he laughed saying he didn't believe I would gym for 3 hours with my roommate, and got very aggressive and threatening. A simple google search of Gregg tells me exactly what kind of person he is anyway, 'proud boy'. I am sick of the harassment from a grown man, acting like a child.

Fantastic experience: Have been a member of Gallery for a few years now and having also been a member of other Chch gyms in the past, Gallery rates above them all on cost, cleanliness, friendliness and quality of equipment. Never have to wait for equipment even at peak times and Greg was cool with me pausing my contract when I had to head overseas, which was great. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Excellent value for money. The gym is well equipped, and meticulously maintained. The owner, Gregg, is always approachable and helpful. He also offers PT sessions, and I have benefitted massively from these. He drew me up an exercise program to meet my specific goals, and I am rapidly achieving those goals. Anyone wanting a gym in the Christchurch CBD should absolutely check out The Gallery. Competitive pricing, superb range of equipment, great atmosphere. I'm definitely here for life.

Negative experience: The gyms whatever but for an extra dollar a week just go to city fitness. Some American guy yelled at my girlfriend on the phone when she was trying to cancel her membership it was very strange, I heard the whole thing, she was being very polite and softly spoken. She just asked a few questions and the guy got really impatient then literally screamed at her. Very bizarre.

Fantastic experience: By far the best gym I’ve been to…and I’ve tried and failed at about 3 other gyms. Staff are knowledgeable, warm and friendly and you’re always greeted when you arrive. The atmosphere in this gym is a real testament to staff and owner that work tirelessly to incorporate new equipment, keep the gym clean and encourage you. Members that you meet along the way that go here are also lovely and you never feel out of place. Can’t believe it’s almost been a year and the results are unreal. Joining is quick and easy, you’ll never look back!

The first thing that caught our attention when we were looking for a new gym was the amount of hammer strength machines that they have. I also really enjoy that we are able to choose the music that we want to listen while we are training because of the crowdDJ machine. Thanks The Gallery Gym team :)

Fantastic experience: I have only dealt with Gregg and Jamil but they have both been lovely and understanding and get the struggles of student life. Gregg is my personal trainer and is supportive and not judgemental. If you are wanting an intense weightloss regime, Gregg does one up for you and through the knowledge from his military workouts you build strength and lose fat and notice a difference within a week. It may kill you but you feel better afterwards. If you are just looking to build muscle he has amazing leg and arm workouts that he pushes you through. You end up hardly being able to walk/lift things because of how intense they are. But it’s great. The gym is always cleaned- cleaned more than once a day by staff, the staff are happy to have a conversation with you and aren’t just focused on the gym maintenance and all make sure they have a rapport with the members. It’s cheap. Yes city fitness is $1 more but the gallery is smaller (in a good way). More intimate and you get more for your money. The new management is doing an awesome job and I can’t wait for the grand re-opening (If you are looking at signing up it’s definitely worth it!)

Negative experience: BEWARE BEWARE! My daughter use to attend this gym and for the most part enjoyed it until she suffered a sporting injury resulting in her unable to use for membership. A few weeks later she noticed that every week she had been billed a different amount with no explanation. She then tried to cancel her membership but the owner seemed to be some insecure guy with a big ego who got his feelings hurt when a client wanted to leave. She enquired about the payments and he snapped back at her saying they were a family business and just trying to be provide a cheap gym. Hope they realise that cheap membership prices are not a warrant for fraud. FYI owner man you won’t find me in your system as this is a complaint on behalf. -dale s

Negative experience: The cancelation process is a joke, payments are never weekly and can accumulate for weeks then you're hit with an outstanding payments fee on top of that when the payment is unsucceful, good equipment at the gym but leaving is a hassle, 4 weeks notice for cancelation is a bit absurd.

Negative experience: Never seen anyone without a towel thrown out despite the rule written on the walls. Break any other rule you may have signed but don't have a copy of and you will be physically intimidated by the owner and immediately barred. So happy to be free of this place finally.

Fantastic experience: So far, 4 weeks in, I'm loving this gym. Warm, clean, really good equipment. Not too crowded, especially at 9pm at night when I go. Music isn't too loud or annoying. The best part about this gym so far is Craig McGuigan. What a legend. Would be nice to have some boxing equipment but the other cardio stuff here is really good.

Fantastic experience: The environment of the place is really relaxed. It is very affordable and staff are happy to help. Definitely a better situation for me in comparison to city fit or snap fitness. There is not too much room for floor exercises but they do have a great deal of modern machines etc and great supplements are available behind the counter.
