Anytime Fitness

Negative experience: I parked in their carpark - which has 3+ businesses operating out of it including a mobile barbershop - while I got a haircut in the middle of the day on a Monday. There is a small sign in the corner of this giant lot saying non-members risk clamping or towing. Considered these risks, but didn't seem like a reasonable person would enforce these when the carpark was largely empty and I wasn't parking for any significant time. I didn't expect to find, on my return, a crazed old man blocking my vehicle with his truck. He ranted about it being his private property and wouldn't accept an apology, he demanded $100 from me before he would move his truck. The staff told me he was the owner or manager. Not wanting to make any scene in front of my passengers I paid the exortionist and went about my day. He then moved his truck into the middle of the carpark ready to find his next victim. Owner's a proper weirdo who seems to want to make his money from highway robbery rather than the quality of his club. It was also pretty obvious he doesn't use his own equipment, besides the till.

Fantastic experience: This is a great gym. I have been going here for two years and it's never been overly busy around 7am before work. Maddy is always a delight to communicate with regarding memberships, and she is very warm and approachable. The gym is clean, thanks to the lovely cleaning staff, Krisna, who is always smiling and pleasant. She keeps the facilities really tidy and hygenic. My only complaint is how a lot of members neglect to clean their equipment when they are done and leave rubbish in the showers.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, went there overdays, almost nobody there, friendly staff gave us a tour, clean showers, free tapwater, great machines to tackle the muscles very effieciently

Negative experience: Had a situation where a credit company contacted me saying I owed over $500 to anytime . I'm upset that I had no prior knowledge or warning that I owed money. On my part, I had notice my yearly subscription was up but didn't realise I had to personally close it myself, but Anytime Fitness gave no notice of this,no letter no emails, nothing, I heard it from the credit company with a final notice bill. Anytime Fitness took money out of my account all over the place. $10 here, $50 there, if the agreed amount of money was to be taken out weekly for the subscription then I wouldn't of been put in the situation I was in. Next time I would love to be notified.

Fantastic experience: Crazy setup, sauna and all. One of the best anytime fitness gyms I've been to. Big space and plenty of machines to work out on.

Matt was very welcoming and knowledgeable making me feel secure about choosing this gym for a 12 month investment in me and my health. I love its available for my use 24/7. The facilities and equipment look great. So now let the work begin....

Fantastic experience: This club has the best selection of equipment I've come across in a budget gym. Toilets and showers always thoroughly cleaned. Staff aren't pesky. Good coffee shop onsite

Negative experience: As a visitor to town I could not visit as a causal entry at 7am and will need to come back at 10am when reception opens. Frustrating will go find a real gym with service.

Positive experience: Would have given a 5 star because its a great place however, Showers and toilet need a regular cleaning especially with covid 19 being the new norm.

Negative experience: Member of Anytime for years tried to cancel during covid, they would not let us cancel even though the contract was out of term. Took about a week to respond to emails and would not provide information requested (contract, legal firm who provided the contract advice) took money out of our account anyway even though we did not agree with Matts cancellation policy interpretation, nobody has replied to our last email - two weeks later. Has always been terrible and rude customer service but if you can ignore the staff the equipment is good. Made calls to other gyms nationally who had no issue with cancelling memberships during lockdown. Hope you are well during these strange times. Thanks for the email query in regards to wanting to cancel down your membership. With current government restrictions in place we are looking at re-opening the gym once Level 2 is announced. Part of your membership obligations includes a 30 day notice period in which you are still required to keep your payments up to date. So with that in mind what we would look at doing is starting that notice period once Level 2 is announced. That way you have the option of using the gym while your notice period is carried out. Although you might not recognize it all the renovations that we've had going on :) Hope that all makes sense and look forward to seeing you in the gym once Level 2 hits :) Warm Regards Matt Manager

Negative experience: Contract carried on past the year, I signed up for. I had to personally, physically close the account. After some time I was caught with an unexpected bill. I explained this, they did agree to half the bill. I still thought there wasn't enough communication on their behalf. Great equipment, unfortunately I was treated unfairly.

Fantastic experience: Love this place especially since I ain’t what I use to be (see b4 & Afta pics)but I’ve got to keep on keepin on! They also have a Martial Arts training gym inside which is extra! Always a friendly greeting from the Manager and other members are warm and welcoming too! It’s not like the old days where gyms were full of steroid munching agro meatheads!

Negative experience: I was a member of Anytime Fitness Whangarei for almost more than a year. I wanted to cancel my membership after completion of 12 months lock period. So I visited their gym and requested for cancellation. Instead of cancelling my membership their trainer suggested that "keep the membership in hold for 3 months and after 3 months if you wish to restart we can reactivate your membership. We will take your approval before reactivating the membership". Approval is because fees was directly deducting from my bank account. Recently when 3 months are over, without taking my approval they have reactivated my membership and deducted 48$ from my account. When I questioned this, with their gym manager and owner they directly told me "you should have read the procedure for cancellation and according to that, you should have given a written letter for cancellation". My question to them, isn't their trainer is responsible for this? When I requested for cancellation it was his duty to either cancel the membership or give a proper guidance, did he do any of it? Is this is a professional ethics? Be careful before registering with them!

Negative experience: Largest Anytime I’ve been to in New Zealand. Clean with a lot of modern equipment. One star removed due to poor quality of toilets. UPDATE: I returned here with a personal guest (a friend visiting from out of the country) and she was denied access. I've been a member of Anytime for four years and have never had an issue bringing guests to other locations; both in NZ and in the US. When I asked about their 7-day trial (as this guest had never been to an Anytime Fitness prior) the staff member stated that the trial wasn't for her; inferring that her foreign appearance/accent disqualified her from a trial membership only offered to locals. I get that you need to remain profitable, but I've been a regular paying member for YEARS and only bring a guest once every couple months. This is the first branch at which I've ever had an issue. We drove 1hr round trip, primarily just to visit my gym. 1 Star.

Negative experience: Someone smells so mutch of sweat you can't breathe but the staff does nothing. The personal trainer makes me feal very unwelcome in the mornings at 6.

Negative experience: Staff were mostly dismissive and condescending. Couldn't bother to even say hello. Owner beyond rude. I don't usually give negative feedback but I felt compelled to in this situation

Negative experience: My partner my sister and I seen a promo on the door stating 2 weeks free to try equipment. We went in band asked as we have never done gym before. This company signed all three of us up we tried thevequiptmeng twice within the first week I rung them up within the second week of promo to cancel membership and they said ok. Two years later the said that I owe them near 3,0000.00 and sent bill to baycourp. Im saddened as i wrote to anytime fitness about their mistake and the changed their story they have left me in debt and we are really dissappointednin this services we care only beneficiaries and they have lied about our whole involvement and about the promo to baycourp the is whangarei anytime fitness. I want all people signing up wuth this gym as they are layers and are no good please contact tespoed in contracts by liars like these ones take care people.
